How do you stop spam from your blue dog dem congressperson?
She's been weighed. She's been measured. And she's been found lacking.

The e-mail came in from Kosmas explaining why she voted against health care. It was a real blue dog kind of response. Simply put, it was going to cost money. I guess she's going to wait until they're giving it away for free.

Anyway, I replied to the e-mail, asking to be removed from the mail batch header, but it came back undelivered. There is no point in contacting her webpage to do this, because it would require providing additional information, which I don't care to share with them.

The perfect answer for this, is if those mailers included a "REMOVE ME FROM YOUR BATCHFILE" option. That should be a requirement on all political endorsements. The other option is to block her, which is never a perfect option since the propaganda can come from different sources.

So, I wonder if we can start a petition requiring that all political spam from our congress people must also include a "REMOVE ME FROM YOUR BATCHFILE?"

1. I suggest working hard in the upcoming primaries to find
someone to replace your representative. I'd worry about that, rather than what to do about spam emails. Just direct them to your spam filter and get to work on a solution for 2010.

2. It should have "unsubscribe"
At the bottom of the email, just like all bulk email is required to have. Although I would think posting the point of view of these people would be helpful in order to rebut it.

3. This is a complicated district.
It would take someone as strong as Alan Grayson to buck the system. The Democrats in this district who are politically connected with the party, have skeletons in their closets and they're very charismatic. Hard to beat unless you have someone with a steel tipped tongue. Kosmas comes across as weak. Her only game will be to conform to the system.

5. So let me get this straight
The rest of us are supposed to sacrifice any progress we might make so that we don't leave districts like yours behind. We're also not supposed to say anything about your district because that's region bashing. And we're not supposed to expect you to do anything to change it because "that's just the way it is" where you live.

Is that about it?

6. Learn about the filtering options on your mail program
Send emails from certain addresses directly into trash. Filter options are wonderful.

11. You know, I did that once and I don't know how it happened,
maybe there was a program written into the file I blocked, but it also blocked me from getting anything that I cc to myself. Weird how that happened.

14. You managed to filter yourself? LOL
Bad as me putting myself on IGNORE on DU

I love email filters. I have some on certain people at work that will send copies of their messages to another email address where I can safely store them in case my computer crashes. Gmail accounts are great as vaults ;)

Have some that copy certain messages to files on my mail program, and some that just trash emails from some senders. Makes life SO much easier when one gets lots of emails at home and at work.

But blocking yourself? That's funny. Drink coffee before creating filters ;)

7. IncrediMail has a bounce back feature
that you can use to bounce any and all spam email back to the sender as "undeliverable." That's the best way I know to get off a spam email list. It's what I used back in the day when people were tacky enough to try to send me mass right wing email.

It's a really nice feature and well worth downloading their program. Plus, if you've got kids, it's got a lot of cutesy stuff for them.

13. Well, if she isn't select about who she accepts as a volunteer, that would
be little help.

This is a State that has one of the most corrupt attorneys in the state on the Florida Commission of Ethics! Tell me if that isn't a deterrence.
