Man charged with statutory rape in ‘marriage’ to 14-year-old girl
Vincent Mosby signed a marriage contract and paid a dowry in a religious ceremony in August, police said.

Mosby, 23, of Kansas City didn’t legally wed his 14-year-old bride, however, because Missouri law won’t allow it without a judge’s order. Police said she was pressured into the union because her mother and stepfather thought she was going to be sexually active with a boy her age.

Although the bride’s stepfather arranged the “marriage,” according to court records, other relatives frowned upon the union and told police in late August. The relatives also took the girl to protect her from further sexual abuse, according to court records.

A relative told police that Mosby called and threatened violence if family members didn’t “give me back my wife in 72 hours,” according to court records. Two days later, on Sept. 9, someone fired three shots into the Kansas City home of the girl’s aunt. No one was hit.

They sold their daughter into an illegal and fraudulent "marriage."
-----------------------------------------

The stepfather, Mosby and the teen had several “sit downs” before the stepfather arranged for a religious ceremony on Aug. 4 at her home, not far from the stepfather’s mosque.

Two members of the mosque attended, but the bride “was not allowed to be present,” court records said. She waited in her room upstairs. Her stepfather allegedly came upstairs after the ceremony, which consisted of prayers and a contract signing, to announce that she was married.

The contract also notes the dowry the girl requested from Mosby — a watch and ring, which he told police he bought at Wal-Mart.

In Islam, boys and girls are considered adults based on when they hit puberty, and people in some parts of the world do marry young, said Mahnaz Shabbir of Stilwell, a past president of the Heartland Muslim Council. However, she said, Islam also says followers should live by the laws of the land.

4. The really scary thing to me is that
The parents would rather sell their daughter to a grown man than risk her having sex with a BOY HER OWN AGE!!!

I would think that the first option would be talking to her about what a big step sex is at her age and how it should be special....oh wait, they SOLD their daughter to some dude who wanted to have sex with a young girl.

Never mind.

I always wanted a daughter (I have three beautiful boys) and it just makes me sad that some people value their girls so little. This girl's parents were supposed to love and protect her, not give her to a man to be abused. It breaks my heart.

5. Obviously these parents don't share your values.
You look upon her as an autonomous human being who should save sex until she is mature enough and ready to experience it with someone who will respect her and honor her and make it a special experience, and be willing to take steps to ensure she doesn't get a disease or get pregnant before she wants to.

Her parents look upon her as a piece of marriage property whose value will be damaged if she has sex before she marries. In their eyes, if she's acting like she can't wait to be sexually active until she's a legal adult, they will marry her off now, to someone who IS a legal adult, rather than risk her having sex with another kid and losing her oh-so-valuable virginity and maybe even getting pregnant. They may well think she's better off having a permanent sexual partner who is a mature adult, legally married to her, than some amateur kid who could screw her and dump her. Doesn't matter what she wants. Doesn't matter that she's too young to marry legally in her state.

I am sure all this makes logical sense to them, but in this country, it's not how we do things.

11. Exactly right!
I hope this kid is taken completely out of this mess and given some safety and security.

I am so tired of women and girls being property and not people.
