Christians my ass
I manage a popular independent restaurant, last night a server told me that when a group of 10 middle age men, were waiting for a table, he asked if he could get them a beverage. One of them actually said " Fuck-you, where were you 5 minutes ago?" The server turned and walked away. I did not see or hear this and the server, knowing me, would not tell me later which man insulted him. The worse part was when their food arrived they fucking joined hands and prayed. These assholes waited less than 10 minutes for a large table in a busy place and had the nerve to act like this. If I had heard the initial fuck-you I would have thrown these bastards out. Sorry to rant & bitch but this is one of the things that really piss me off. The customer is NOT always right and service people have 'rights'. The worse assholes are the kick down & kiss up assholes. Peace, Richard

2. I am a Christian...
and worked as a waitress and I hated working Sundays. They come in groups of 20, monopolize your time, and leave you a $2 tip and a bible tract. The manager finally started charging a gratuity because none of us would work Sunday. I spoke about that at Sunday school classes and Joel Osteen did a funny and pointed sermon about that once too. We are doing our work, not the Lord's so please tip.

6. My experience was the same.
I've seen people bitch about the 15% gratuity when they got their bill. They would try to find little things wrong and would even sometimes ask for a manager to get out of paying it. Some groups were nice, though, and would leave something extra for me. But the complainers could be so bad that they would ruin my whole day.

65. I tip a minimum....
of 25% up to 50%. If I don't have enough to tip, I cut back on my order or don't eat. I have been known to tip drive thrus, carhops, hotel maids, valets -I have an old but paid for car-so that is very funny, and I always give Christmas tips to folks that wait on me year round before black Friday (rare in the South).

I do it because I am a Christian and I should follow Christ's example and treat others with love and compassion. I don't do it to be rewarded later in heaven or that I might be punished if I don't.

By being kind to those that serve, I become a better person. But I do occasionally do get a guilty pleasure when waitstaff that I know pull me out of a long line and give me prime seating and are very attentive (esp if I am with my Mom). I am sure the folks back in the line wonder who I am.

On Sundays a restaurant I worked at had an "all you can eat" chicken dinner. Not a buffet, so we had to keep bringing plates of chicken to the tables. Rudest people, and the most work for the least money.

And stupid too. I'd be too paranoid to eat in a place in which I pissed the staff off. (Not saying your place would retaliate - but I wouldn't be comfortable eating just wondering about it)

7. Just for shits and giggles.....
My son used to bus tables at a Hyatt Regency Hotel. He told me one day this holier-than-thou type was constantly complaining about everything despite my sons best efforts to please the man. He became soo upset with service that the customer splashed him with coffee. At that point my son took his plate of food and slammed it right in his lap.

It was like a scene out of a Three Stooges movie.

Needless to say that was his last day on that job.

Especially among middle class white men. When the discussion turns to politics, it's all Obama nigger this, Obama nigger that. They don't just hate black folks either. They despise anyone who does not hold their 'religious' views, anyone poorer than they are and don't get them started on Mexicans. But when the chow shows up they get all holy roller and pray to 'Jesus' for this awful world they are forced to live in. It's enough to make you puke and if you call them on it, they start in on you. Nigger lover, spic lover, welfare queen, etc. Assholes to a man and proud of it.

Wow... as a Buddhist, it's hard to consider how to respond with compassion with people like this. What do you say to that kind of mindset? I guess thinking you could change that kind of mind with words alone would be naive. Obviously they're miserable...well, compassion wouldn't be pretending their behavior is acceptable, that's for sure.

Same shit, different assholes. Granted, I heard stuff like that when I was back in Chicago, too. But, they didn't hide behind Jeebus when the spouted that garbage. They weren't holy rollers up there. What gets me is that the holy rollers around here will claim they're not the racists. It's those who call them out on it that are. They're really defensive about it, too. Right after last year's election, some of them were fear-mongering in my local fishwrap's on-line comments. I pointed out that their ilk are afraid of everything--change, terrorists, atheists, brown people, anyone or anything different than them. I listed a whole bunch of things, but all they saw was "brown people." Proof enough for me.

I couldn't believe it. I busted her out on the spot. I said "you must not eat in restaurants" and she said "yes I do, quite a bit, but I never tip." This woman is in her 60's.

I couldn't believe it. The rest of the day the whole office kind of shamed her about it.

15. Just because someone prays it does not make them a good person
Another example would be suicide bombers praying to Allah right before committing mass murder. Or people who shoot abortion doctors praying to God and convincing themselves they are carrying out his wishes. Then of course there were the nuns at my Catholic school when I was a kid who always prayed oh-so-devoutly but did not hesitate to beat the kids with bamboo canes for the slightest infraction.

16. Greater Grace Crazy Loons from Hell would frequent the restaurant I worked in in undergrad...
I worked at a Bertucci's and these people were crazy. Fucking crazy. Rude, never tipped, ran you like crazy, every horror story you could imagine. Parties of 35 showing up and only order ice water and rolls (they're free). Well it turns out Bertucci's was started in Boston, and that church was LITERALLY LEAD out of Mass, I am not sure why. The owners were still original when i worked there, and when they found out it was them, the owner was at my store the next DAY and told them NEVER to return to his establishment. It was truly amazing.

They came back after that, but were MUCH nicer, actually ordered, and didn't gripe when there was a gratuity added to a party of seventeen. we never had problems with them again...

19. Get serious. The way to deal with them, is biblically.
They were rude, and insulting. You tell them that their behaviour is unchristian. If they mouth off again, you look them straight in the eye, and ask who their spiritual leader is. You want to discuss with him/her, the behaviour of the group. Declare, that when they hem and haw, that they are extrabiblical, and will be dealt with. Do it as calm, and as forceful as possible.

I would imagine they are also white? The people of most privilege in this country expect to be treated as such. They are top dog by race, religion and gender so of course they mistreated the server then prayed. That is how they think. She was nothing, she was only female and not of their socio-economic class. This is the kind of hateful thinking and behavior that characterizes the typical Christian, white-male Republican. Privilege all the way and expecting nothing less.

I know folks like to trash Christians and Joel in particular. I don't go to Lakewood but I enjoy catching his sermons now and again. That was one of my favs. You can always tell the folks that are longer in their spiratual walk with God. 47. I've been talking to Vt. Parks Rangers for 30 years
Edited on Wed Nov-11-09 01:31 PM by Mopar151
The gist of what I heard: Church affiliated groups are, by a fair margin, the worst from their POV. Demanding, rude, cheap.... Our group (sports car club/hillclimb) is one of the better ones, because we are considerate to them, and take pains to leave the park cleaner than we found it. And we try to feed 'em and beer 'em at opprutune times. The hefty "special use permit" fees probably don't hurt, either. We've only had one ranger take a serious dislike to us in that time - I think we got him fired!

Backalong, we had a bad day. I'd had a big oil leak, we had 2 new cars totaled, another waiting for a tow. As I was sweeping up the last of the speedi-dri from my mess, I borrowed a shovel from a ranger, and apoligized for the mess. She said "Oh, That's OK. You guys don't crash much more than the tourists, and you bring your own wrecker!"

63. Oh yeah!!! That's been my experience too!
As a teen back in the early '90s, I worked a minimum wage job at a state park for a couple of summers. We had a saying that we'd rather have every motorcycle gang on the planet descend on our park all at once, than have to endure one church group. This was not said tongue in cheek -- we meant it!

The motorcyclists, no matter how large the group, were ALWAYS polite, cleaned up after themselves, treated staff and other park guests with respect and consideration, and never raised a fuss about anything. In contrast, we had problems with almost every single church group that came through. Wild, undisciplined preteens would clog up toilets with whole rolls of toilet paper, and write their names in mustard on picnic tables. They would leave their garbage strewn across the ground next to an empty trash can. Adults in the group would demand discounts for anything and everything (which we didn't offer to anyone except senior citizens and small kids/babies) and would complain about EVERYTHING under the sun (including a lack of toilet paper in the restroom -- HA!). Other park guests would complain about their behavior (rowdy teens, proseltyzing, etc). They were like flocks of locusts who would consume everything and break everything in their path.

But back to the OP... if I'd been that server, I would have stepped over after their prayer and asked that man if he spoke to Jesus with that potty mouth. It would've been worth the loss of tips. }(

55. That's when I as the waiter have a hard time remembering their orders
If they order Fish with no garlic I bring them extra garlic. Fuck up their drink orders a few times. And over cook their meats.

58. Here is one payback story will make everyone feel better
Ten years back I controlled beverage sales at a big convention type hotel. Once, during busy holiday catering season, we had a banquet room rented out to a local manufacturing company.A few minutes before legal closing time the asstard owner/ CEO had me paged and down to the room. He proceeded to tell me how his company spent $60,000. a year at our hotel and if I closed he would have my job and he would pull out his big bucks. well, 60 K is no little bit it still was a very small part of sales. I closed 5 minutes early, no last call, and since it was a private party the bartender pushed the portable bar out of the room. The redneck owner is in my waiting face bitching, getting me fired and so forth. Then he called me a motherfucker 8 times. I just smiled and left and went to work on his fat & quickly getting fatter 'open' bar bill. every motherfucker cost him $90.00 for the extra bottles of Stoly I made up. The previous 16 bottles of $90.00 bottles were already on the bill & earlier, when he had already shown his complete bastardness I poured $3.50 vodka into my empty Stoly bottles and charged him full price. The SOB came back the next year and I ripped him off again. I am usually honest in business but with this guy I wasn't. I hate a suck up kick down prick. So there I've admitted my unethical slip in the business world and feel better. Peace, Richard

60. People who wear their religion on their sleeve are the biggest assholes on the planet.
The ones who always brag about how pious they are or how often they go to church or how much they donate are truly the worst people I have ever met.

They think because they are forgiven (in advance apparently!) think they can get away with anything. They use it as an excuse to do whatever they want. And they say atheists have no morals, when in fact atheists are MORE moral, by and large, because they know this life is the only chance they get.

62. When someone tells me they're a Christian...
...I say, "Thanks for the warning." I also avoid businesses that display the "Jeebus fish" in their ads or on their premises. They're usually the biggest crooks in town.
