Wonder why the Stupak amendment has caused
such anger? Because it happened during a Democratically controlled Congress and White House and promoted by a Democrat. You would think that this would be the time women could breathe a sigh of relief, not having to fear some Republican pushing the system and sneaking something onto a bill... just amazing that they allowed such a travesty.

1. No mystery. No partisan rationale needed.
Pro-choice women are understandably enraged when something passes that puts choice at risk.

2. I find it a betrayal ..
I joined the democratic party at the age of eighteen because they were the party to protect abortion rights .. Now, I can't trust the party to do that.

12. Many Dems from the Bible Belt were never proponents of choice.
We've got a much higher % of pro-choicers than Republicans, but voters have always had to check out candidates on an individual basis on this issue.

And yes this is a disastrous element in the bill, among other disastrous elements. Unfortunately, removing it, while important, won't take the stink away from other parts of what passed.

4.  K + R . There is absolutely NO justification for this that I will ever accept.
For Democrats to do this to women and to insert it into the heart of what they claim is pivotal history making HCR legislation is absolutely horrifying. It is a worldspinning out of control and everywhere it seems there is no one to trust.

14. I thank you, too.
And I was happy to recommend your post. The Stupak harm-deniers need to be called on their destructive nonsense.
