Great quote I saw
Great quote I saw: "Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day; teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime; give a man religion and he will die praying for a fish."

3. I like a variation on that:
"Build a fire and keep a man warm all night.

Set him on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life..."

4. Saw this variant on a battered truck in Gloucester, Massachusetts:
"Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day.
Teach a man to fish and he will starve to death."

6. There is another old version
I used to see, but I haven't seen it in awhile, nor do I remember the way it was worded. Basically the joke was that you can't teach someone to fish in the middle of the desert. I think perhaps it was when I was living in SoCal--now that I'm home in NE again, I don't think that variant has much impact on a NE state.

5. Teach a man capitalism, and he will employ all fishermen, take their fish, and let them starve
