Google to Murdoch: Whatever, Dude

News organizations are in complete control over whether and how much of their content appears in search results. Publishers put their content on the web because they want it to be found, so very few choose not to include their material in Google News and web search. But if they tell us not to include it, we don't. If publishers want their content to be removed from Google News specifically all they need to do it tell us.

2. I love it ... Redditors have been echoing this since the
Murdoch threat broke. Everyone seems to LOVE the idea of being spared content from FAUX, WSJ, The Times, The Star, etc.

3. I love these guys
Just the facts Rupert. Lets see if he tumbles. I'd find it much easier for Rupert to sort my
news searches for me. How about stopping any re-posts of Fox "fake" News.

6. Yeah, I'm really torn here ...

I know what he's after is an assault on "fair use" doctrine.

Of course he has it within his power to turn remove his properties from Google searches tomorrow. I mean, robots.txt isn't exactly brain surgery, nor does it require a court order. One thing that's funny about this is that his sites do have a robots.txt, and most of them are specifically set to allow searches of all pages. Some even have helper directions to the site map.

But I would really, really love Google to call his bluff and just turn it off without worrying about all that.

7. I heartily urge Google to add a "Murdoch free" link/script to their many options.
Edited on Wed Nov-11-09 01:52 AM by eppur_se_muova
They already offer many options such as scholar, maps, shopping, etc ... why not have a prominently labeled option for those who want to preserve the splendid isolation of the much-put-upon NewsCrap?

After all, Murdoch says he wants this. I say, give it to him in such a way that he can't change his mind.

(btw, love the pic)
