Mea Culpa (please read)
I am sorry I posted a bigoted overtly partisan thread. I apologize to all DU'ers. I know I now have a target on my back, and I accept full responsibility. I have been having a few bad days and I unfortunately took it out on the good people of the South. I promise to work hard to get back in your good graces. I beg for you empathy and forgiveness. I understand that not every one will forgive or forget what I posted, and I don't blame you. If it makes you all happy I will not post again. One bad thread in 6 1/2 years has alienated me from this website I care so much about. I hope you can all find it in your hearts to forgive. I am leaving it up to you whether I should stay or go.
Here is the post that I am ashamed of. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=6977519&mesg_id=6977519

A lot of vitriol and spleen venting went on, and that is all I have to say.

Yours always,
Max

1. I'm from the South. You can stay as far as I'm concerned.
I do, however, think our problem is national, not just regional. And states out West are redder now than my state of NC. They just don't have the horrible stain of slavery in their background. But they do have John Birchers and the militias. I'm not offended though at all.

I live on the West Coast and I know what I see when I go to those two states. It has gotta be HELL to be a lib in Utah!

22. really, dont worry!!! I have been called so many names on DU for so many years
Ive been attacked, kicked , imposed upon, reviled, called names, locked my threads, lost count of it all.

Luckily, everyone on here are usually pretty sweet even when I disagree with them, and put them on ignore, which, lately, I have been doing a lot for my blood pressure.

But let me tell you a story. the DUers here, in 2004, when my husband was killed, were really there for me. They helped me get thru it. They did everything for me, they helped me when my stepson was sent to Iraq, they sent him packages and sent his whole unit packages to get him and his unit thru that yr of war.

They are good people. they might disagree with you, but many of them are angels in disguise,. seriously. They will be there for you, many of them, when you need them. They are some great people.

Dont feel bad. Just know that you are truly among some wonderful people who are really decent and good.

and hugs to you dear. big huge mom hugs.

24. I always give someone who apologizes a break
It's those who refuse to apologize for anything that need help. You don't, just because you are sincerely apologizing which means you aren't apologizing for someone taking what you said in a wrong way. You are actually apologizing for what you said.

I admire that.

33. Classy post. John Lennon said, "Love means having to say you're sorry every fifteen minutes."
If more people would say "I'm sorry," there wouldn't be so much conflict in the world.

My dad was from Texas, and his family from Texas, Georgia and Mississippi, but no offense was taken. Your original rant came from a place of passion, so any excesses in it are understood.

Thanks for your honesty and courtesy, Max.

deflect from our pain. You're A OK in my book. Only a big person can apologize this sincerely, you are at home here and it should stay that way.

90. no need to apologize Max, nothing wrong with having a preference...
how absolutely boring if everyone had the same taste, it would be like sipping the same watered down broth day after day. I'm going to check out this Billy Joel because he sounds like my cup of tea :-)

69. I only have one thing to differ in what you said...
It's not about anything you may have said about "the south". I could tell by what came through that you probably weren't meaning to be that way. I lived in the South for 35 years and know what you refer to is in the North, too.

It's more about is who killed Kennedy .... Well after all... it was you and me.

Pleased to meet you Max. :hi:

74. I just read your other thread and I have to say your a minor leaguer at south bashing
I've seen some truly epic south bashings in the past 5-years I've been a member here. Honestly, yours wasn't even in the top 100. Don't beat yourself up over it, we all have bad days when we're not ourselves.

I hope you're feeling better. Even though I had not seen your previous thread until you posted this, apology accepted and no hard feelings. :grouphug:

81. Thanks
I will stay in the minor leagues. I have learned my lesson, and you all showed your true colors. I wish there was a way to view my previous rants, they had nothing negative except bashing Republicans, which we all enjoy doing.

Peace,
Max

Edited on Wed Nov-11-09 10:07 AM by maxpower
Us and the GOP. We don't march in lock step. Whereas we have so many different and varied opinions on all mattes. I appreciate you all welcoming me back in to the fold. I set my family straight (the Southern GOP'ers that is). You all gave me the intestinal fortitude to do so. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. As I said this website has sustained me for the last 6 1/2 years. I would be heartbroken if one thread said in anger would alienate so many. Please bash Illinois. Look at our Governors, one is serving a jail term and Blogo is nest. So I will get off my "high horse."

Much thanks,
Max

And you partake, here's to all of you.

78. I have been
After so long you invariably meet nice and groovy people. I was afraid you would all send me to Freep Land. That would break my heart, I despise republicans ( except most of my family, but you can't choose your family).. You guys make my day. Thanks to all DU'ers who have sustained me through the many years. Now if we could get our majority to pass the legislation we elected them for things would be better.

Peace,
Max

85. I live in Georgia
I'm from Pennsylvania - and I can't wait to get the hell out of here. Taking a job in Georgia and moving my family was the biggest mistake of my life.

As far as I'm concerned, you can say what you want about the south, but remember that not everyone here is a crazy right wing evangelical nut case.

I think one month of showing the Atlanta Braves logo instead of the Cubs would just about do it.

88. You are astute
Growing up in the South I was a Braves fan( I even saw Hank Aaron play in that dreaded Atlanta Fulton County Stadium. Moving to Florida I had but two teams to root for, thanks to the super stations, the Braves and the Cubs. I still follow the Braves, but they won a damned world series, one of the greatest moments of my life. Now I put my heart and soul into the disaster they call the Cubs.

Go Falcons, the Bears suck and aren't going anywhere. Matt Ryan is going to be one the great ones. So I will root for them, as long as they bring back Steve Bartkowski and Billy White Shoes Johnson.

Enjoy Atlanta it is a gem of the South,
Max

92. Great, but don't overdo it
Gotta get back with the cubbies after a while.

I spent a few years in GA, but further south. Atlanta was the big city up north.

Now I root for Tigers and (yes, it's true ...) Lions (hoping they get maybe two or three wins this year).

If I can just figure out how to show one of those icon things ... naw, I'm doing good if I can get a lousy smiley to show up

I like my Cubs logo. The Lions have a chance against the faltering Bears. I think Jay Cutler is one the worst trade in recent memory. Million dollar arm, 10 cent brain. Vikings are a lock. At least the Lions have a chance against the Bears

I don't think that would rate in the top 50 South bashing threads. AND you apologized.

Don't worry about it, and forgive yourself. We get absolution from others while still smacking ourselves around too long.

Come to SC sometime, and we will sneak around and visit the sane people. I know the special code to use. We can go get some 'Q' if you want.
