Stupak, member of WA insider secret nut case religious group: "The FAMILY."
Edited on Tue Nov-10-09 06:47 PM by BeHereNow
I just posted this to another thread and on reflection, think it worthy of its own posting.

Take a walk back in time with me DUers, old and new.
Remember the 2003 Harpers expose on THE FAMILY, by Jeffrey Sharlet?

I think it is time we revisited it.
What happened to SECULAR government?
Separation of church and state?

Read this 2003 listing of some members carefully; and then read the article in all its horrifying reality.

"Ivanwald, which sits at the end of Twenty-fourth Street North in Arlington, Virginia, is known only to its residents and to the members and friends of the organization that sponsors it, a group of believers who refer to themselves as “the Family.” The Family is, in its own words, an “invisible” association, though its membership has always consisted mostly of public men. Senators Don Nickles (R., Okla.), Charles Grassley (R., Iowa), Pete Domenici (R., N.Mex.), John Ensign (R., Nev.), James Inhofe (R., Okla.), Bill Nelson (D., Fla.), and Conrad Burns (R., Mont.) are referred to as “members,” as are Representatives Jim DeMint (R., S.C.), Frank Wolf (R., Va.), Joseph Pitts (R., Pa.), Zach Wamp (R., Tenn.), and Bart Stupak (D., Mich.). Regular prayer groups have met in the Pentagon and at the Department of Defense, and the Family has traditionally fostered strong ties with businessmen in the oil and aerospace industries. The Family maintains a closely guarded database of its associates, but it issues no cards, collects no official dues. Members are asked not to speak about the group or its activities."

They hope we forget, we don't. Not all of us.

1. Whoa. Of course. We should have realized that immediately.
By the way, I recall that The Family had picked up stakes and moved to another location after they recently received so much attention. So, the frat house is located elsewhere, I guess. Do we have any info on that?

Edited on Tue Nov-10-09 07:44 PM by global1
keep that location under surveillance. That's probably what happened to cause them to move from C-Street. We need to know who comes and goes from their "Family" home. Then we need to vote all these "Family" members out of office.

9. People need to know about them before we can vote them out...
So yes, I agree- More investigative journalists nned to report on them.
I wish we had a Jeremy Scahill dogging these kooks.

They are quite secretive, and like their corporate counterparts and buddies,
disguise their agenda and workings through a web of front groups.

4. yes...probably the same ones from primary wars....
HRC joined back in 1993 and stayed with them even when she became a senator. She wrote admirably of Doug Coe as her mentor in her 2003 book. Just another reason why some of us don't trust this and her other close associations with fascists (Bushes).

In fact, I would suspect it more than probable, but possibly a mix of those types along
with just plain ignorant people who have only recently come to political awareness?
Not every one has been following as intently or as long as certain DU members.

I do wish the ignorant would simply take the time to READ some
of what we offer though...

14. Exactly- They are a cult, holding positions in our federal government-
all three branches are infested with these kooks.
They ignore the constitution, believing themselves to be chosen
to rule by GAWD.... They are not like us, they consider themselves, "chosen."

48. don't forget
because they are CHOSEN, they pretty much can get away with anything. All you gotta do is look at poor King David-how he sinned, but he was still the chosen of God. Nope, the supreme sky god does not forsake his chosen. So, I guess that means you can screw as many women as you can, murder as many people, steal, lie--as long as you are chosen.

He is probably, along with Katherine Yurica, the foremost authority on
these Moonies.
And yes, I consider them a cult.
A very dangerous cult ,when you consider
their positions of power in all three branches of government.

I am so happy to hear she is exposing these kooks in our government!
Thanks for the information-
Maybe I can find some clips without commercials of her interviewing him.
I'd be very interested to see what the networks allow him to, and NOT say.

I don't watch tv and only watch online so I can control the commercials. I mute them online and don't watch the video until they are finished.

Sharlet said that stupak "isn't the brightest bulb on the porch" and the real power behind this amendment is pitts who has been a hardcore member of the family since the 70's. He (pitts) has a laundry list of anti women policies he has pushed through in his years in congress and is most dangerous.

Ensign recently moved out because of the attention his scummy behavior has brought to "the Family".

Rachel also goes into the fact that there are at least 8 active members of the family that voted for the amendment. She names them.
