I take it the same people who are looking forward to seeing Hassan hung from the highest tree
are the ones that always come up with justifications when US troops shoot civilians in Iraq or Afghanistan.

1. And the ones defending him condemn the murder of Dr. Tillman? but not these murders
Edited on Tue Nov-10-09 05:24 PM by stray cat
DUers approve of murderers as long as its people they disagree with who are murdered or if they think the murderer fits their defintion of politically correct.

They also condemn Tim McVeigh - but Hasan is a victim! Insane

3. I'm not gonna defend him or call him insane. I just think he is a regular POW.
Nothing more nothing less.

23. Well, he's right.
If an american soldier had infiltrated an enemy army, and then proceeded to kill several of them, he'd be hailed as a fallen hero.

25. But the point is that he effectively defected, genius.
Remember what I said about the incurious?

You're right, cali, he just hates us for our freedoms. No need to discuss it any further.

26. bwaahahahah. he defected? just when you think it can't get any stupider.

And no, dearie dear, I don't he "hates us for our freedoms". I think the evidence tilts strongly toward his being mentally ill.

29. He didn't defect. He didn't leave the base. He didn't
openly declare his affiliation with anyone else.

Not a POW. Just a scum-sucking murdering SOB.

27. lol. let me ask you something:
Edited on Wed Nov-11-09 07:14 AM by daedalus_dude
you are always the one advising people to stay calm and moderate about politics. when people bust out in rage over one country attacking another, you advise them to chill and look at both sides of the story, stay objective.

yet, such a small insignificant forum post gets you wound up? why?

edit: getting called an asshole by you, is something like a badge of honor here ;)

You're really not operating in any form of reality. And delusion is not the basis for a discussion on anything.

30. well. you are the historian:
Edited on Wed Nov-11-09 09:18 AM by daedalus_dude
wasn't there some precedent in united states history, where a naive american gunned down a union soldier
and was put on a murder trial? the judge then dismissed the case arguing that the troops were at war with
the tribes.

didn't gw bush declare the "war on terror" as a "crusade" on many occasions? right wing pundits have
argued that our goals are to "kill their leaders and convert them to christianity". and american troops
are known to have distributed bibles in the occupied territories.

edit: to be honest, I heard about that case on "dr. quinn medicine woman". it said in the credits that it was based on a true story.

6. speak for yourself, not for "DUers"- you don't speak for me, and I've
been a DUer for awhile now.

I condemn murder PERIOD. Including the pre-meditated state murder that was inflicted on Tim McVeigh, and will be inflicted on John Allen Muhammed tonite. That doesn't mean *I* approve of what they did- it means that I am consistently against murder.

Violence and killing only begets violence and murder.

4. Whatever the media is selling, many on DU are buying, I'm afraid.
Personally, murder is murder, and that includes both executions and slaughter of civilians.

9. What an idiotic post
First, I would think that many of us here are against the death penalty. Period.

Second, what is it with DUers who constantly try to change the subject? Hassan is a murderer. OK? The death of civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan is a different topic.

Health care cost money and the way to support it through taxes, OK? That the rich may not pay enough taxes, or that the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan cost money are a different topic.

So I won't jump to the conclusion that just because you're apologizing for this guy, you're the type who'd justify the attacks on 9/11.

I hope Hassan is court marshalled and is given the maximum sentence. I would also hope that those guilty of war crimes are also brought to justice. Neither need any justification in my opinion.

Is that good enough? I am capable of two separate thoughts at the same time.
