Liberal groups launch ad attack; 'payback time' for Blue Dogs
By Eric Zimmermann - 11/10/09 12:31 PM ET

A liberal activist group has decided to run ads attacking 10 centrist Democrats who voted against the House healthcare bill last week.

The Progressive Change Campaign Committee (PCCC) e-mailed supporters on Tuesday asking for funds to take on Blue Dogs and other "bad Democrats."

"They betrayed us on this core Democratic issue," PCCC co-founder Aaron Swartz wrote. "It's payback time."

The targeted lawmakers are largely Blue Dog Democrats.

"Blue Dog Democrats are wholly owned subsidiaries of corporate America, and they will pay a political price back home for putting their corporate contributors ahead of their constituents who want reform," said PCCC co-founder Adam Green.

On a similar note, Americans United for Change will run ads congraulating Democrats who did vote for reform.

The full list of Democratic targets:

Rep. John Barrow (D-Ga.)
Rep. Heath Shuler (D-N.C.)
Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (D-S.D.)
Rep. Scott Murphy (D-N.Y.)
Rep. Jason Altmire (D-Pa.)
Rep. Glenn Nye (D-Va.)
Rep. Larry Kissell (D-N.C.)
Rep. John Adler (D-N.J.)
Rep. Suzanne Kosmas (D-Fla.)
Rep. Mike Ross (D-Ark.)

3. The extreme right is hell bent on
purging the moderates and starting a civil war in their party. So now the extreme left wants to start a civil war among Democrats. Absolute brilliant strategery.

4. Extreme left?
You mean people who support traditional Democratic values?

And responsible health care and economic reforms?

5. Yes we need moderate and conservative Democrats
to keep the far left in check. We have those that want to confiscate everyone's firearms, shut down every industrial plant, and turn us all into vegetarians. Same on the Republican side they need some reasonable people to counteract the Sarah Palin's.

6. I'm about as far left as you can get
and I've never wanted to do any of those things. Far left to me is a radical departure from the far right. Telling the truth, having compassion, empathy, and wanting to share the wealth with the poorer souls among us. The rest of the attributes you give to the far left are right-wing talking points, nothing more. Have you been listening to Rush again?

9. This is why you lose- and why the country's in an inexorable decline
toward third world socioeconomic status. Enjoy your failure of a health care bill and the double digit premium increases it will enable!

11. "moderate and conservative" != corporatist! Most of these bums are CORPORATIST!

That IS the problem! If they were truly supporting the people and not their corporate lobbyist contributors, then many of them just might actually vote for this bill, provided that they are comfortable that it is constructed in a fiscally prudent fashion. The CBO has said that single payer and robust public options are MORE fiscally prudent than the crap that these jerks want. Why? Because they AREN'T being fiscally "conservative" but fiscally CORRUPT and handing out favors back to their friends who've bought them out!

These corporatists are the cancer this party needs to rid themselves of and put in place public campaign financing to keep them out!

Those that MIGHT qualify as grass roots conservative Democrats that might support gunowners' rights, etc. but who don't shill for corporate lobbyists for these areas are pushed out of the system, like Paul Hackett was by party corporatists like Schumer.

10. So who are the candidates running against these targets?
"Fuck you" isn't a choice on a primary ballot. You have to vote for somebody.
