Palin remains a GOP player
Washington (CNN) -- She was a high-voltage candidate, lighting a fire in the grass roots of Republican-land -- fresh, folksy and fierce.

She famously belittled her party's presidential opponent, Barack Obama, at her coming-out party at the 2008 Republican National Convention:

"I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a community organizer, except that you have actual responsibilities."

Sarah Palin remains a force -- the most recognizable name in the Republican Party, a headline magnet.

Just over a year after the defeat of the Republican ticket, the Republican No. 2 is Amazon.com's No. 1 in nonfiction presales.

Writer of books, giver of speeches, muser of politics on an unusually active Facebook account. And robo-caller on behalf of a conservative group in this year's Virginia governor's race.

A recent CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll found 85 percent of Republicans say Palin agrees with them on their most important issues. But only 49 percent of independents feel that way.

1. Player, but will never run for anything again.

She will flirt with politics to boost book sales and speaker's fees. Also to angle for a TV show.

But her candidate days are over.

3. She's been planning this since before the campaign ended.
Somebody is advising her such as Bill Kristol or some other neocon. I wish I knew who was backing her. There are plenty of rich wingnuts that will help her.

They had better be very careful. She does what she wants. Palin may be taking their money and advice now, but she will dump them over the side in a heartbeat. She has her peeps, and they will do what she wants not what Armey or DeMint or whoever else decides.

6. Oh Darwin, why does the media seem intent on keeping her alive?
Yeah I know, good theater. Good political theater sells.

But shit, this isn't just their jobs, this is the fucking US. I worry she might get elected to something important, and then, by golly by gum, she'll just wait for Jesus to fix it.

9. Slow news day, CNN?
Edited on Tue Nov-10-09 05:14 PM by rocktivity
Or would talking about health care reform cost you insurance company ad revenues?

The network doth protest too much, methinks.

:boring:

12. You're missing the point if you ignore her.
Her peeps don't care if she quit being governor. She can do no wrong. They will back her until the end of time. We are talking about that lovely slice right on the edge of the GOP.

These people aren't rational by our standards. They have come up with rationalizations in their own minds about why she does what she does. Palin will never be at fault to them.

If they have swallowed all the crap she has thrown so far, what would change their minds now?

14. I recommend Silly Putty over Legos.
Legos have sharp edges, and require (literally) constructive thought.
