Presidential wannabe Tim Pawlenty treats wounded deer like he's treated Minnesota
http://ww2.startribune.com/user_comments/comments.php?d=asset_comments&asset_id=69657497§ion=/politics/state

Gov. Tim Pawlenty got himself a buck Saturday at the Minnesota Governor's Deer Opener, but still came up empty handed.

Pawlenty, who has more often than not failed to shoot a deer during the opener, shot a small buck while hunting north of Thief River Falls Saturday morning.

But the deer ran off into the brush, apparently badly wounded.

Hunters who were with Pawlenty started hunting the blood trail the animal had left behind, but Pawlenty had to leave for Iowa, where he was headlining a Republican Party fundraiser.

There are so many things wrong with Pawlenty's behavior here, it's hard to know where to start. These are the kinds of "hunters" who should be banned from hunting. I've come across far too many dead deer in the woods that hunters like Pawlenty left to die without ever bothering to track them. It doesn't make me proud to be a hunter.

Many commenters on the story appropriately made an analogy between Pawlenty's hunting and his governing. And this guy wants to be president? With any luck, his next hunting party will include "Deadeye" Dick Cheney.

5. I am very anti hunting. I realize that there are DUers
who believe in it and who hunt themselves, but I just can not understand hurting another creature for the sheer fun of it. How can such a thing be fun? sigh. Now, the best we can hope for is that this deer died a quick death or that his wound was superficial and will survive, although according to the report, it was badly wounded. double sigh

7. Many reasons to hunt
Some believe it is still in us from our hunting/gathering past, the enjoyment of group, enjoyment of nature, the taste of the wild game. Some people hunt and do not kill any game that day and still had an enjoyable day.

8. I don't hunt, but...

I don't see anything nobler about driving to the grocery store to pick up meat that someone else killed.

Hunting and fishing feed a lot of low income folks.

10. I used to hunt and fish
Due to some knee surgery I haven't done so in about 4 or 5 years. The reason I hunted was for the food, not the horns like many trophy hunters. Venison is very good meat, and it doesn't have all the hormones that the beef you buy in the store has. Same with fish you catch in the wild, they have not been fed "special" diets to make them bigger and fatter like the ones raised in fish farms. When I get my own food I know where it came from, unlike many things we buy that have been processed in the U.S., but may have come from China or other countries. I hope to get back to hunting and fishing in the near future for the reasons I listed.

6. He'd probably get more financial backing if he was late and told the truth about why he was late.

9. Pawlenty may have shot this deer illegally
According to this hunting publication, Pawlenty took a 150-yard shot at 5:30 a.m.

http://www.outdoorsweekly.com/news.html#GovDeer

The official sunrise was at 6:59 a.m. on opening day, and you're allowed to shoot one-half hour before sunrise. So did Pawlenty wound this deer before it was legal to be shooting?
