My rant on Abortion
Edited on Tue Nov-10-09 10:44 AM by Botany
All men opposed to abortion should not get one and if they are not the father then
they need to STFU and go away. I was sickened to see all these men in Congress so
ready to stick their noses where they do not belong.

2. Agree!
Congress...not the group that should be talking about other peoples morals. Prostitution, restroom romance, page pilfering, gay men voting against gay rights. Not the group of people to be talking about much of anything!

5. Indeed.
The self-righteous "every sperm is sacred" cabal never ceases to amaze me.

I keep wishing these loudmouths could take over gestating a blastula, have the hemorrhoids, give birth, have the post-partum depression and the cracked nipples, and then nurture a child for 18 years.

They would then be making MUCH less noise. Much less.

7. "if they are not the father"
To be honest, I don't think that matters either.

8. What if he honestly wants the kid,
and doesn't simply want to sanctimoniously prevent an abortion? Just wondering.

9. Then he and the woman should talk things over
If she wants an abortion, there's probably a good reason. In the end it's her choice and no one else's, at least until Congress erodes abortion access laws more.

10. Then he can carry it
I see no reason a man should have any say so over what a woman does with her own body.

12. Ugh...I'm sorry
But your subject is just stupid. And I'm usually completely on board with your views.

However, you are entitled to your view, as stark as it is: a man has zero say over what a woman does with her reproductive body. I almost agree with you. But I feel it really should come down to discussion. A man has no right or entitlement to demand anything of a woman, but having been on one side of this, I sincerely feel the man should be consulted in such cases. Even if they disagree. Even if the woman has the abortion anyway. It needs to be discussed.

(and in my case, she decided to abort, and I agreed with her, under the circumstances. But even if I had not, it still would have been her decision. But if she hadn't spoken to me about it, we might well not have just celebrated our 11th anniversary)

So where the eff does that put me?

11. In an ideal world, a man's wishes would be taken into account, and the
decision would be made by both. But the law is that abortion is between a woman and her doctor--there is no other party who can legally interfere, as far as I understand it. This is to protect women, from either forced abortion or forced childbirth.
