Rec this if you think it's possible to be Progressive but still not be particularly fond of Kucinich
Edited on Tue Nov-10-09 09:05 AM by Orrex
Or don't. It's mostly just a sort of rhetorical request.

However, a lot of what I've read in the past few days makes it clear that if you don't fall down to praise his unassailable principles, you're somehow not a real Progressive.

Is it just maybe possible for a Progressive not to support Kucinich?

ER: There's always room for progressives here!
FDR: Indeed there is, old girl!

3. If we really want progressive change, sometimes we have to settle for a less than perfection.
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was a progressive but flawed bill that was made better over time. Kucinich probably would not have signed the bill out of principal because it did not include women or the disabled.

8. Kucinich Is One Of The Most Useless Dem Reps Ever. Of Course You Can Be Progressive And Not Be
particularly fond of him. All he does is give lip service to his minuscule base.

9. "not particularly fond" vs "fall down to praise his unassailable principles"
Interesting dichotomy.

I would have gone for "generally agree" or "generally disagree", and then I might have rec'd the thread. It's not about liking him or about praising him. It's about whether you think he follows progressive ideals.

10. Bull-- "don't fall down to praise his unassailable principles."
Way too much hyperbole for me. You do certainly see a strong defense of him emerge when he is very visibly targeted and used as a deflection away from greater, more politically malignant issues and machinations by bluedawgs and the corp status quo. We have a few people here who make DK bashing a full time occupation, though. and when they start resorting to citations from the CFR to try to make a faux quote or argument against him, it becomes almost laughable. Of course you can be a Progressive in my book and still not be particularly fond of his person, but if you're not sympathetic of most of his actual ISSUES, at least in principle, then ... are you?

13. DU is infested with anti-Obama, stDennis worshipping posters.
Obama can do no right. stDennis can do wrong.

Make sure you get that right.

And whatever you do, don't dare to defend the Democratic President of the United States on DemocraticUnderground over some minor Congressman that most people don't give a shit about.
