No matter which country people are from, I seem to get along much better with those
who assume that their country is doing wrong until proven otherwise then with those who assume their country is doing right until proven otherwise.

I have russian friends who hate russia, german friends who hate germany and iranian friends who hate iran, american friends who hate america and so on.

I normally feel sceptic towards people who assume their country is doing right until proven otherwise (and even then make attempts to rationalize it).

1. You are right to be skeptical, because such people usually are dumbasses.

Let me be a little more eloquent: they usually don't think very hard or very deeply.

3. Do you also get along better with people who
assume that their citizens are doing wrong until proven otherwise than those who assume their citizens are doing right until proven otherwise?

4. What a depressing worldview.

Assuming the country one's living in is doing wrong all the time? And 'hating' it to boot? So if one of these people moved to a country they hated less and lived there for awhile, they'd end up hating that one too? That's a sad life.

Such people are often called 'malcontents' and I try to have as little to do with them as possible.

I recognize that the country I'm living in can do right and wrong, and try to recognize the difference, and do what I can to right the wrongs that do occur. I wouldn't invest so much time, emotion and effort if I 'hated' it.

5. Same here
And I've lived in other countries and I work in a university that has people from all over the world. Most of the people I know aren't in denial about what their governments do, and they don't follow their governments 'official' policies. For example I've know professors and students from countries that are at constant war with each other (such as Palestine or any Arab country and Israel) who get along perfectly well in spite of what their governments do. They are all believers in peaceful coexistence.

Universities have their faults, but they can teach a lot to governments about living in enlightened peace.

7. how sad and far over-simplified
I try to change America for the better because I love my country, not because I hate it. I neither assume the government is good nor bad, at least in the sense that it ultimately is up to us as the true power of a representational Republic to ensure that we do what we can to offset the bad/corrupt with people who are good.

8. lol. what a silly post. Simple minded and two dimensional
and though I certainly think my government does reprehensible things, I don't hate my country.
