The conversion to Consumerism began under FDR and was completed under Nixon. Our whole economy is organized around it. Consumerism, the process of devising the entire economy so money is taken from the poor and middle class and put in the hands of the Wealthy and investor class, is exaclty what is going on. As for laws favoring the rich, that has been the policy at lest back to the late 1800's with Social Darwinism.

The issue here is whether, given that, the government will take some of the wealth from the wealthy (through progressive taxation) so that all Americans will be able to afford health insurance.
