I for one am tired being ignored
I am a bleeding heart liberal, yeah I say it with pride. Our party has abandoned us. They, with the exception of a few, have marginalized us. I don't know about the rest of you liberals, but I am finding it very hard to deal with what is going on. Look to Europe, they have very liberal policies and they fucking work.

I love Abe Lincoln, but maybe he should have said fuck you to the south. We had manufacturing and farming. The south lost because they couldn't keep up. If he had let them go, they would have been begging to come back. But fuck the Red states, sorry to my DU friends who happen to live in the south.

The south has done nothing but put a burr in our saddles, and they killed Kennedy. Look at a financial map, who is supporting this country, the blue states. Sorry for the negative rant, but I am getting pretty fed up. We have a majority in the senate yet that asshole Lieberman is going to fuck up health care, because he is an insurance man.

Sorry for the negativity, but I've had enough.

Peace,
Max

1. Everybody in the South killed Kennedy?
I'm still under the apparently mistaken impression that one man, Lee Harvey Oswald, did this. Of course, it depends on which conspiracy theory you subscribe to. Maybe you know of one that the whole of the the Southern people were part of?

7. Sorry what does TPTB mean?
I merely meant that the South, and other places, have screwed the progressive agenda. LBJ lost the south when he passed civil rights. We (liberals) are still paying the price. Of course it was worth it. The right keeps telling them that they will be rich, hence their reluctance for a fair income tax.

Max

34. I know what you're trying to say, Max.
I feel the exact same way. I wish all rightwingers would hole up in one region and go ahead and secede.

We'll keep San Francisco, Hawaii, New York, Harvard, Stanford, Silicon Valley, Hollywood, Chicago, Yosemite, and Disneyland. We'll even take the Mexicans and LGBT people and abortion providers they hate so much. They can have their guns in their bars and churches and National Parks (if they even have National Parks), Baby Jesus in the courthouse, prayer in schools, and the Ten Commandments in the halls of government, plus all the weapons systems, abstinence teachings, and high fructose corn syrup they could ever want. I couldn't care less how they wanna live. I really feel they are a tremendous cultural drain on all the rest of us and I frankly am tired of them constantly working against the rest of us as we try to move this country forward.

We are outnumbered and surrounded by idiots every single day. Yet, we keep trudging along and trying our best. Geez, NC went blue in '08. Do you realize what kind of fucking miracle that was?

110. Yes, it would have prevailed
Probably not until the last half of the Twentieth Century, WWII (or WWI) might have changed the factors involved, but surely African-Americans would today be in the shape that they were during the Jim Crow years today.

I mention the World Wars because they would have united us in a common cause, and there would have been influence from the Confederacy to the Union, and vice-versa during those times. If you think of the similarities and differences between the US and Canada, I can imagine that the same comparisons and contrasts would have existed, had there been a split.

But on the other hand, would a separated United States have been able to prevail against the Kaiser or Hitler? If you take the view that unity makes you stronger, then a unified United States as it currently exists is more than the sum of two parts that might have emerged if there had not been a Civil War.

Maybe you ought to apologize for pretty much everything you said in your original post, if it refers to the feelings of anyone, it refers to those who are long gone dead, and really doesn't have dick shit to to with people currently living in the South.

I'm not a Southerner, but I think that if I were, I'd be pretty offended by what you had to say.

slander and libel against him prior to the selection, the race would never have been close enough for Bush to steal.

It was the Florida Supreme Court which called for a full state wide recount, it was the U.S. Supreme Court which determined that voting by different methods was ok but counting the ballots wasn't and that an arbitrary date was more important than determining the will of the people.

Al Gore won Florida but lost the U.S. Supreme Court battle to have the ballots counted.

We are frustrated down here too. You think it's bad to be outside looking in at this stupid shit. Try living amidst it. You'll go bald from pulling your hair out, get high blood pressure from the stress, learn to duck when they get drunk and start shooting their guns off all hours of the day and night, and hide when you see certain ones coming toward you, because you are sick of being told you are going to hell and preached at and you know that's what they are going to do. You know which ones are going to do it before you actually meet them. You can tell by the glazed over look in their eyes. You see them coming and can spot that shit from a mile away. You KNOW they are going to preach at you. You learn to not make complete and full eye contact until you've discerned whether or not they have the glazed look. If they do, you quickly avoid eye contact and get the fuck away as soon as you can.

You think it's easy for southerners who have evolved to live amidst all the Neanderthal Republinazis who haven't evolved yet? Hell, they act like something is wrong with US! They'd shit in their hands and throw it at us if we didn't at least civilize them that much. Do you realize what kind of miracle it is they don't throw dung in the Halls of Congress? It took us decades to civilize them enough to not embarrass us that way. It may take decades or even centuries more for them to evolve and stop all their shit. Please, I beg of you, come down here and help us potty train them, at least. Throw us a line here, huh?

8. A few points about the South
Not all of us are rednecks. Get off your high horse. The South ultimately lost because Lincoln was shrewd enough to declare the Emancipation Proclamation
which, by the way, kept England and France from siding with the South. And Lincoln's address only freed the slaves in Confederate States, but not in the North.

16. some more
Won't you come with me to Alabamy
Let's go see my dear old Mammy
She's fryin' eggs and boiling hammy
That's what I like about the South

Now there you can make no mistakey
Where those nerves are never shaky
Ought to taste her layer cakey
That's what I like about the South

She's got baked ribs and candied yams
Those sugar-cured Virginia hams
Basement full of those berry jams
An' that's what I like about the South

Hot corn bread, black-eyed peas
You can eat as much as you please
'Cause it's never out of season
That's what I like about the South

Aahhh, don't take one, have two
There's dark brown and chocolate too
Suits me, they must suit you
'Cause that's what I like about the South

Well it's way, way down where the cane grows tall
Down where they say "Y'all"
Walk on in with that Southern drawl
'Cause that's what I like about the South

Down where they have those pretty queens
Keep a-dreamin' those dreamy dreams
Well let's sip that absinthe in New Orleans
That's what I like about the South

Here come old Bob with all the news
Got the boxback coat with button shoes
But he's all caught up with his union dues
An' that's what I like about the South

Here come old Roy down the street
Ho, can't you hear those tappin' feet
He would rather sleep than eat
An' that's what I like about the South

Now every time I pass your door
You act like you don't want me no more
Why don't you shake that head and sigh
And I'll go walkin' by

On, on, on and on and on
Honey, when you tell me that you love me
Then how come you close your eyes

Did I tell you 'bout the place called Doo-wah-diddy
It ain't no town and it ain't no city
It's just awful small, but awful pretty
That's Doo-wah-diddy

Well I didn't come here to criticise
I'm not here to sympathise
But don't tell me those no-good lies
That a lyin' gal like you can devise

You love me like I love you
Send me fifty P-D-Q
Roses are red and violets are pink
If I don't get all fifty, I don't show

She's got backbones and turnip greens
Ham hocks and butter beans
You, me and New Orleans
An' that's what I like about the South

I know it may look that way, but you have to admit they vote mostly red. I lived in this south when I was younger, there are great people. I hope I didn't offend. But facts are facts.

62. Like I said, bigotry.
Your mistake is in speaking of "the south" as if there is any one such entity, rather than millions of individuals with their own contextual differences, and then making generalized statements about that artificial entity.

I was born in the south, but my ancestors were from the north. It was my parents that moved south. So what does your civil war blathering have to do with the people who have moved to an fro and all around since then? By the way we moved back north again.

How much time does one have to spend in the south before they count in your "the south" generalization? 1 year? 5 years? What if someone moves from the north to the south - do the inherit your insults and generalizations upon crossing a certain line?

What states should we include in this "south fucking?" Tennesse, which elected Al Gore? Or Arkansas, which elected Bill Clinton? How about Georgia, which brought us Jimmy Carter?

I've never met a "The South." But I have met people who live in southern states and some of them are brilliant and some of them are ignorant and vile. Pretty much like every place else I've been.

Is usually how we delineate between north and south. I lived in the South for 12 years, and the treatment of the blacks and Cubans was deplorable. You are using examples from at least 20 years ago. You also gave us Saxby Chamblis, Lamar Alexander, Jim Bunning, Jim DeMint, and who can forget Lindsey Graham. All helping our cause.

39. By the way, Europe is drifting rightward, and has its own serious problems.
It is so much better than here in so many ways. But before we glamorize it to death. Many countries in Europe have lost left-ground in recent elections, liberal ideas still face opposition, and more responsible social programs and policies are complicated, expensive, and have their own host of challenges and issues....

It's totally worth fighting for, and what's implemented right now in many places in Europe leaves the US to shame across many categories of quality of life. But its a battle.... there is no utopia on earth.

for people who happen to live in the south. Yeah, right... good luck with that.

Since you profess to "love Abraham Lincoln", then I'm sure you've heard of the phrase "a house divided against itself, cannot stand". I think we all should heed this advice.

104. Correction: SOME of the southern Dems went Republican.
The rest stayed in the Democratic Party and became full fledged Dixiecrats. Guess what? Those Dixiecrats are called Blue Dogs today. They are the problem inside our party. Think I don't want a true progressive Democrat to vote for locally? Think again. What I wouldn't give to see the Dixicrats finally laid to rest in history where they belong and actually replace them with real progressive Democrats.

It could be argued that if one was going to kill a democratic president in the sixties, the south would be the easiest place to pull it off.
And it was also the easiest place to steal a presidential election.

Treason lives and breathes in the south. I know. I live there.

Rather than trying to move the country leftward, and that's why the country is so rightward.

You're living up to the repuke stereotype of a liberal, just expecting the government to do things for you and not even willing to fight that the government do things for others.

You should be out running for a school board seat just like a right winger would do. And supporting the leftmost viable party, like a right winger would do. We have to give them one thing, they have energy. They never sit and complain that their party has abandoned them, they go out and do.

Look at all the teabag protests with nary a one from the left. Every time they are energetically calling Senators and campaigning for this or that, even in a minority. We seem to do a little work and then sit back as though we can expect everything to fall into place.

throwing the baby out with the bath water and making it easier for the people you claim to despise to use divide and conquer to manipulate the peoples' emotions.

No state is totally red just as no state is totally blue, they do trend toward certain areas of idealogical thought; in large part because of history and culture, but if you want to convince more people to believe as you, don't insult their homes.

Your issue is with Dumbfuckistan, not "the South". Dumbfuckistan, unlike the South, is not a real place, It is a Brigadoonian state of mind.

And in case you haven't noticed, what is left of our manufacturing base includes MANY factories in the South and in red states.

In fact, even the term "red" states is not so broadly true anymore. Obama was a serious electoral player in former red states like Georgia and Mississippi and Alabama and .....

Those places are all purple, my friend. Not red.

Their populations are still slightly favoring of the Dumbfuckistanians, but not by all that much.

By the way, next time you find yourself in Atlanta or Nashville or Jackson or Birmingham or Tulsa, look around. Losta rock solid liberals down there.

I get your angst.

But rail against the Citizens of Dumbfuckistan. They're located in the State of Their Minds ...... and that is EVERYWHERE, friend.
