senators recuse themselves, if they have a substantial stock position in the industry affected by any given piece of legislation (insurance for instance), or have received largess from said industries, themselves. Could we say, hey, this is a conflict of interest, I think you might want to sit this one out because it would look terrible if you sided with the industry, and could potentially be illegal? I feel this is an entirely reasonable request in a civilized country. How many senators would that leave us voting on this bill, 2?
