Who is with me for a possible primary challenge for Kucinich?
Edited on Mon Nov-09-09 07:28 PM by LoZoccolo
A big question for me is whether or not we should just go ahead and do it, or offer to not do it in exchange for not challenging Obama. If he challenges Obama, his political career is over; the money will come out from all over and so will all the trashings of his reputation.

11. The last contender who challenged him got beaten badly. He only garnered 35%.
Kucinich's support in his district is strong. There's no reason to think things have changed considerably since the 2008 primaries in that district.

28. But one could easily argue he ran home because he was losing the presidential run very badly.
Edited on Mon Nov-09-09 07:45 PM by Selatius
He had nowhere else but home to go to after the pointless presidential run. It is better to spend resources removing some of the Blue Dog Democrats in favor of populist Democrats because their base of support is infinitely weaker in their districts. The liberals in the House act as a guide post. If it weren't for the Progressive Caucus, there wouldn't be a bill passed in the House at all. However, we can lose one or two Blue Dogs in the middle and still maintain an overall advantage against the Republicans.

One would probably more likely unseat Joe Lieberman before Dennis Kucinich at the current rate.

61. That's not that bad at all. Kucinich only got 50%.
There were 3 other challengers as well who split the remaining 15%. I think you rather overestimate Kucinich's support, and would not be at all surprised to see another challenge next year.

62. Yeah, but if history is any indication, any more than two challengers and Kucinich wins.
Edited on Tue Nov-10-09 01:45 AM by Selatius
They fragment their own efforts when they put up more than one candidate. Besides, with first-past-the-post rules, you could technically win with just 35% if all the other candidates received less than that. With rules like that, 50% is pretty hefty. (It's also why there is a two-party oligarchy in place to begin with, but that's another discussion)

65. If you look at the listing of the Representatives according to personal
wealth, you will find Kucinich near the bottom -- meaning that he is one of the least wealthy members of the House. In other words, he is not on the take and he does not take advantage of his position for personal gain as are and do so many other members of Congress. Kucinich is a man of integrity. It would be very sad if someone put Kucinich out of office. One of the most honest of the members of Congress, that is who Kucinich is.

66. Very well said. Kucinich is a breath of fresh air in
DC.

He's apparently the most powerful man in Washington as someone pointed out yesterday. With all that's going on the world, he gets more Ops than any other politician, including Obama it seems.

He really riles up the DLCers, simply by telling the truth and not following their orders on what to say and when to say it.

I think a memo went out on Dennis from Rahms organization, the one that has lured the liberal groups like Move-on into the fold. Move-on, who does exactly what Rahm tells them, is trying to do what this poster is doing, go after the Congressmembers who exercised their right to not to vote for a bill they could not support.

Move-on turned out to be easily bought.

No wonder so many people don't belong to a political party. I myself have voted democrat in every election but I don't let anyone tell me how to vote. I don't belong to any party. My vote doesn't belong to anyone but me. If you have to vote the way you are told I will never belong to a political party. If Kucinich is some how kicked out of the democratic party and becomes an independent I would follow him.

You actually defended Lieberman several times and claimed that we needed to take the bad with the good, since he was still basically a good Democrat and we'd lose his "power" and position in the senate. Now, you had the right to that opinion and to express it. But we also had the right to call you on it. And, as it turns out, we were absolutely right about that republican-in-waiting. And I seem to recall your anger over Lamont's challenge as well, not just against his grassroots supporters.

76. The problem is that, having grown up in that area and having
lived there until a few years ago before moving to another state, and having close family still in that area, I have to say that DK does NOT have quite the support in his district that much of DU seems to think he does. He may very well be vulnerable to a challenger. His district is not all blue-collar, it includes a lot of upper-income republican-leaning neighborhoods as well. And the local press loves to bash him, too, never mind that they often don't get their facts straight.
