What Obama said today about abortion and health care

ABC news wouldn't let me cut and paste at all, so I typed out the most relevant parts. You can read the entire article at

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/abc-news-exclusive-obama-jobs-health-care-ft/story?id=9033559

Obama said:

"this is a health care bill, not an abortion bill"

"we're not looking to change what is the principle that has been in place for a very long time, which is federal dollars are not used to subsidize abortions"

"I want to make sure that the provision that emerges meets that test -- that we are not in some way sneaking in funding for abortions, but, on the other hand, that we're not restricting women's insurance choices."

No "sneaking in funding for abortions" but "not restricting women's insurance choices." :wtf:

Obama also talks about cuts in Medicare to fund this new program, says he will veto anything (meaning a final bill from the Senate) that tries to undo the Medicare cuts. Great news for seniors. :sarcasm:

Change you can believe in, but won't necessarily like.

6. So why were the Blue Doga allowed to make this an abortion bill/ Why were they allowed
to use abortion rights as a bargaining chip? What a hypocritical statement.

11. It's interesting how many DUers dislike the truth.

If you don't believe Obama said these things, I suggest you read the ABC article. It's all there.

Those of you unreccing the thread are just sticking your fingers in your ears and saying "Lalalala, I can't hear you and don't want to."

12. His remarks on this issue are odious...
...and unacceptable.

Apparently it's okay to sneak in provisions that restrict a private person's right to buy coverage for a legal procedure, with their own damned money. That kind of sneakiness is A-okay with him. It's especially okay, because it mostly affects poor women, who need to be having more rather than fewer babies, as we all know.

Shame on him.

"There's a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious—makes you so sick at heart—that you can't take part. You can't even passively take part.

"And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop.

"And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all." – Mario Savio, Sproul Hall Steps, December 2, 1964
