apparently because so many people are home so much because they don't have jobs that it has become difficult for the burglars to find people NOT at home to rob.

People have pawned their jewelry, digital cameras, CD players, computers, big screen TVs -- what's left over for the robbers?

7. Because it still comes down to whether you are home or not.
If you aren't home then your gun just becomes one more thing for a BURGLAR to steal.

These aren't ROBBERIES - they are BURGLARIES we are discussing after all.

with a 12 Ga. Remington 870 he isn't going to take a chance breaking into a home. The cha-ching sound of someone chambering a round in an 870 is a burglar's worst nightmare.

12. That's just STUPID - burglars don't break into occupied houses period.
They look for people who are on vacation or at work. Your gun isn't going to fire itself while you aren't home. Sorry but the notion that your gun is going to stop or even "deter" a burglar is stupid on its face. In fact a gun at home without an owner is actually an incentive for the burglar to target a house.

17. "Your gun isn't going to fire itself if you are not home" So
you admit guns don't kill people in this case. So why is that a criminal waits until you are on vacation or at work? If it wasn't for the fear that you may be armed he wouldn't worry if you were home anyway.

30. or you might have a golf club or a louisville slugger or a butcher knife
or you might simply call the cops.

The main reason is because they want to be 12 miles away before you know you've even been robbed. They aren't so afraid of you and your penis replacement as they are of getting caught by the cops.

Get over yourself - all your gun is is something else to be stolen.

sounds fun.

I've never fired a gun, or even touched a gun, but your description makes gun owning sound like a good idea.

I've been contemplating this issue. We've got young kids though and I'm concerned about safety.

Maybe someone could invent a device that made the sound of "someone chambering round in an 870" as you described it?

19. That distinctive sound alone can put more fear into criminal
than anything else. It can be any pump shotgun but the Remington is the most popular. Well you could use an empty gun but there is the possibility that he may have one too.

And it's more for close counters. Household defense is for the shotguns, I can handle the shotguns much easier.

I'd like to try one of these Taurus Judges, thou.

pretty hefty recoil. The Judge is a shotgun in the form of a revolver. In CCW class they said they are a great CCW for your car. Say you are sitting in your car and some nut job tries to break in, you can't hardly make an aimed shot with a regular pistol, you can load your Judge up with buckshot and you throw out a pattern of any number projectiles. It happens, last October there was a road-rage case in the Pittsburgh area. This guy cuts a women off the road and comes over to her car and punches the women in the face, she happened to have a CCW and she shot him in the belly. The guy did live through it and she was not prosecuted.

29. So, one shot equals more than one bullet?
Pardon my ignorance, but when you shoot a shotgun--it shoots multiple bullets?

I happened to catch about 5 minutes of a movie today where a guy was shot with
a shotgun, and he had about 6 holes in him. That struck me as odd, but I wouldn't
have thought twice about it, until I saw your post.

32. A shot-shell can hold one projectile or any number of them
starting from 000 buck shot up to #9 bird shot. A standard 12 ga. "000" (triple ought) 2 3/4" shot-shell holds 6 .36 inch balls. A standard #9 bird-shot 12 ga. 2 3/4 inch shell holds around 585 .08 diameter balls. Did you see the women on Oprah that had the face transplant I think she was shot at close range with #6 shot?

Druggies are breaking into houses and stealing alot here. My own parents house was robbed of meds, by my nephew! A local woman on anti anxiety meds had druggies break in and rob her, whilst beating her into unconsciousness.

The talking heads Lie, as usual.

850-pound safe apparently too heavy for burglars

November 4, 2009

BY ROSEMARY SOBOL Staff Reporter

Burglars bit off more than they could chew late Tuesday in Lincoln Square as they were forced to abandon an 850-pound safe on the sidewalk outside an office they ransacked.

“I have to give it to them, they moved it about 40 feet,” Lincoln District police Sgt. Patrick Barker said with a laugh. “I had three guys with me and the four of us had a hard time moving it. We only got 10 feet. It’s absolutely the heaviest thing I’ve ever had to move.”

Police found it at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. Nearby was a broken 2-wheeled dolly marked “rated 600 pounds.”

as encyclopedia salesmen!

Man: Burglar! (longish pause while he waits, he rings again) Burglar! (woman appears at other side of door)
Woman: Yes?
Man: Burglar, madam.
Woman: What do you want?
Man: I want to come in and steal a few things, madam.
Woman: Are you an encydopaedia salesman?
Man: No madam, I'm a burglar, I burgle people.
Woman: I think you're an encyclopaedia salesman.
Man: Oh I'm not, open the door, let me in please.
Woman: If I let you in you'll sell me encyclopaedias.
Man: I won't, madam. I just want to come in and ransack the flat. Honestly.
Woman: Promise. No encyclopaedias?
Man: None at all.
Woman: All right. (she opens door) You'd better come in then.
Man enters through door.
Man: Mind you I don't know whether you've really considered the advantages of owning a really fine set of modern encyclopaedias...(he pockets valuable) You know, they can really do you wonders.
