Joseph Anh Cao - Future Democrat?
I mean how many Republicans actually even realize they REPRESENT poor people.

Joseph Gao said that's specifically why he voted for HCR.

Good for him!

As I understand it he replaced William Jefferson who gave new meaning to "cold hard cash" for keeping $90,000 of FBI bribe money in his freezer.

Can we please trade Suzanne Kosmas, Mary Landrieu and Joe Lieberman out for Joe Cao now?

Come in to the light Congressman Cao....leave the dark side behind..become a Democrat.

Darth Vader: There is no conflict.
Luke: You couldn't bring yourself to kill me before and I don't believe you'll destroy me now.

Anh "Joseph" Cao was born in Saigon (now Ho Chi Minh City), Vietnam. His father, an officer with the South Vietnamese Army, was imprisoned by the Communists.

At the age of eight, Joseph escaped to America with two of his siblings. He learned English, thrived in school, and earned a physics degree from Baylor University before he began studying for the priesthood.

Joseph first arrived in New Orleans in 1992. He left to earn a Master's degree in philosophy from New York's Fordham University, returning to Loyola University to teach philosophy and ethics. As he prepared for priesthood, his faith was strong.

However, his confidence in government's ability to care for those in need weakened by the day. Before long, Joseph ended his quest for priesthood in a personal crusade for social justice.

4. Well he voted FOR HCR. Suzanne Kosmas screwed us.
and I was a early supporter of her campaign. At least she doesn't actually represent me since Alan Grayson is my rep. She's in an adjoining district (24).

6. He voted yes because the stupak amendment passed. If it did not, he would have voted no.
Nice. This is what people want in a democrat?

5. I don't know enough about him,
but my first instinct is to say we don't need any more repubs joining us to drive the party further to the right.

9. His District is 70%+ Democrat. He's up for re-election in 2010.

Representative Cao has bucked his party on a number of other issues.

7. I thanked him, but still have to reconcile
that he only voted YEA because the Stupak Amendment passed. That amendment won't help the poor women of his district at all.

8. If wants to retain his seat, he will switch over. It's an overwhelmingly democratic district

He only won it in the first place because Bill Jefferson was so so SO corrupt and even then, it wasn't a blowout.

12. Sorry but I don't see why you could possibly think is vote is so admirable
Edited on Mon Nov-09-09 07:22 PM by Hippo_Tron
The guy lives in a district that voted for the President by 75%. He voted for health care reform because he wants to be re-elected. If his constituents were against it, he would've voted against it.

Additionally if he switches parties he will probably just get his ass kicked in the primary. Part of it will be due to race, IMO.

13. No. The teabaggers will assassinate him before then.
They're angry, violent, cornered animals and he is a convenient target for their wrath if health insurance reform passes.
