My predicition for how HCR will go in the Senate
The "triggered public option" goes into the bill.

Snowe and possibly Collins jump on board.

Lieberman becomes irrelevent.

In January of 2011, Joe loses all chairmanships.

7. Reconciliation will be used, but not on the bill that goes to conference
Edited on Mon Nov-09-09 04:53 PM by WeDidIt
They're saving that for what comes out of conference.

Remember, there's one more vote on what comes out of conference in both the House and the Senate.

8. The restrictions the House bill puts on insurers are pretty significant.
No preexisting conditions. No lifetime limits. I do think the House version is a lot better than nothing, even if I would prefer a socialist solution.

10. I agree
I presume that the Senate will not act until January, and we will see teabagging going on during the December recess. We already see what August did, December will finish this off, now that there are more specifics in both the House and Senate bills to pick at.

3. In this case, the Democratic leadership needs to go. Trigger is not an option.

12. When you start the "negotiations" at the point we did, what the hell did you expect?
We have the House, the Senate, and the White House, but still we must beg for stale crumbs?? what is wrong with this picture?

17. Our people always begin negotiations by giving away the store.
I wish someone would take Obama, Reid, and Pelosi to a flea market so that they could learn how to haggle.

14. I have no problems with Stupak or the Trigger
Because I think Stupak will be rolled back to the equivalence of Hyde and the Trigger will be stripped in conference.

Then, the House will pass the conference bill and the Senate will go to reconciliation on the conference bill.

15. What actions in the sausage-making so far suggest that they'll be stripped?
The trend seems to be heading the other direction - with lots of greasy thumbprints all over this bill.

19. Two indicators
Stupak is more draconian than Hyde, so regressing back to the level of Hyde is easy and loses none of the yes votes after conference in the House.

Reconciliation doesn't require 60 votes because cloture is no longer an issue, so the conference bill moves directly to reconciliation and who cares what ~10 Blue Dogs think about it.

6. House, Senate differ sharply on health care reform
WASHINGTON (CNN) – Where does the battle for health care reform go from here? More importantly, what does it mean for you?

Democrats made history over the weekend when the House of Representativesapproved the biggest expansion of medical coverage since Medicare was enacted over four decades ago. President Barack Obama now stands closer to realizing the Democratic dream of universal coverage than any of his White House predecessors since Harry Truman after World War II.

But top Democrats know that it is far too early to celebrate. The road to final passage of health care legislation is still long and bumpy.

The more conservative Senate - where it is much easier for the GOP minority to stifle the will of the Democratic majority - has yet to pass its own version of a health care bill. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada last week signaled uncertainty over whether that will happen this year.

18. We operate with nothing - basically. How many DUers know how much the
corporations are going to make under any of these ideas.

Dem people should take OUR OWN READINGS ABOUT HOW THE VOTE WILL GO - by demanding positions and experctedvote of our own leaders from our own districts and states. Then hold them to it. We need to position ourselves IN FRONT OF THE LOBBYISTS. Let them know that we are not going to allow their vote to be bought without our pre-knowledge. Then, the tallies should be published and maintained, not just with a vote change, but with comment. If there is no comment - demand it. Let them know that our votes will count just as we are pre-counting their votes for this deserved privelage. Health care free of blood sucking lobbyists and always hungry corporations.

Hold the noose or some other symbol high and prominent so that we don't have to rely on what Hoyer or Pelosi or Reid tell us about the number of votes they have or don't have. I'm sick and tired of their games.

White House, Senate, House of Representatives - if we can't do it now - we'll never do it. We need to zip up their pockets and all the sweet, sad, verbal maneuvers they use with us.
