Palin: How about you quit making things up?sees conspiracy in new dollar coins

She then got a standing ovation from most of the crowd, but a few had begun to leave before she even finished and within seconds of her concluding, scores more got up and put on their jackets as they walked away.
In addition to the suggestion that government officials would consider hastening the death of the infirm or handicapped, she began her remarks with a puzzling commentary on the design of newly minted dollar coins.
Noting that there had been a lot of “change” of late, Palin recalled a recent conversation with a friend about how the phrase “In God We Trust” had been moved to the edge of the new coins.
“Who calls a shot like that?” she demanded. “Who makes a decision like that?”
She added: “It’s a disturbing trend.”

The decision to put "IN GOD WE TRUST" on the edges of presidential dollar coins has received little attention from the press, but was reversed in 2007, before President Barack Obama took office. Sens. Sam Brownback (R-KS) and Robert Byrd (D-WV) sponsored legislation to move the motto back to the front face of the coins. "It is important that our national motto, 'In God We Trust,' is prominently displayed on all of our currency," Brownback said. "We should not relegate our heritage to the side." Some of Palin's recent speeches have also received lackluster reviews. At a recent speech in Hong Kong (which also banned the press) some delegates purportedly "walked out in disgust."

2. who made the decision?
A unanimous Senate and a near unanimous House and George W Bush who signed the legislation in 2005 that specifically and expressly directed the placement of In God We Trust, E Pluribus Unum, and the Date and mint on the side of the Presidential Dollar. Sarah ran on the same ticket as a one of those who was responsible for the "trend" that so disturbs her (and that was the overturned a couple of years later by another bill that also had bipartisan support.

Sarah, some people are lovable idiots. You are not.

3. 'In God We Trust' is NOT our national motto.

8. More whacko, right-wing pandering
Nothing gets the right-wing stirred up than one of their leaders invoking something in the name of "GOD". All while the very same leaders take them to the cleaners.

9. As a numismatist for over 25years... ( I collect coins!)
Edited on Mon Nov-09-09 05:08 PM by DontTreadOnMe
The "edge-lettering" was done on the new gold-colored George Washington $1 coin in 2007. This was the intended design for the entire $1 series of Presidential coins, one coin for each President over the NEXT TEN YEARS.
This is a similar program just like the "state's quarters" program.

This edge lettering is something that was done on many US coins in the past, and had not been done for many years. On some US coins, there has also been the mint mark on the edge.
The new edge lettering was used to create interest in the coin collecting community. Coins with edge lettering are interesting, and were usually only done on rarer gold coins.

It turned out that it was very expensive to produce coins with edge lettering, so the US MInt dropped it after the first George Washington coin, which was sold out, and is rarely ever seen in circulating change.

And it ALSO turned out that a few thousand coins did make it through the US MInt and they were NOT struck with the edge lettering (a mistake or mint error), and these are known as RARE errors and sell for a premium.

So Sarah wants to know WHO made this decision??? It was the Director of the US Mint! The was no conspiracy and the entire Coin Collecting Universe has known about this for over two years!
In fact the US MINT is now on the 12th $1 coin represented by Zachary Taylor... the edge lettering was only on the George Washington coin... and the next eleven Presidential coins dropped the edge-lettering.

oh Sarah... can she see the US Mint from Alaska?
