Dr Nancy Snyderman just went ballistic on the Stupak Amendment. I don't think I've seen anyone make this kind of emotional, impassioned argument for women's rights on TV in years:
Snyderman: Kelly, you know what I find so infuriating about this? I mean, absolutely infuriating? And this isn't about being pro-choice or pro-abortion or any of the hot button lingo. We know women pay more for insurance than men. We know women are restricted in the states. And now it's basically, if you're a 50 year old woman and you're in a monogamous relationship you suddenly find yourself pregnant, you better have an abortion rider to access health care that you thought you had? It is one more pressure on women. I'm surprised that frankly there isn't more outrage over the fact that ...this isn't fair!
Kelly O'Donnell: What you're voicing is what woman after woman on the Democrat side, the progressive side of the party, said on the House floor. They came out one after another, speaking in very strong terms against this amendment the amendment did pass despite their objections. The amendment puts, as you describe, pressure on women to anticipate a need for something that is a very difficult personal experience with a lot more implications. It's not an easy situation for any woman and to now ask them to plan ahead for the potential and buy an extra policy, those who oppose this amendment say that is simply too much.
Snyderman: A white man deciding a woman's (deep breath)... deciding a woman's responsibility in her own procreation. I mean I ... I find it infuriating. I really think it doesn't matter what side of the abortion issue you're on, the fact that they are making health care harder and harder for women to navigate the system. I think it's outrageous. Just outrageous. Kelly O'Donnell, thank you.
And folks it's not about abortion. It really is about one more burden for women navigating the health care system. Before I blow my top, time to turn to Monica Novotny at the news desk. Monica, get me out of here ...
Word.
Update II: With female, pro-choice Senators like
this who needs wingnuts?
I am dying to play poker with the Democratic caucus. I could really use the money.
And a good number of these white men who are making these repressive decisions for all women... live/commune in the house on
C-Street.
Names that include:
House members Zach Wamp, R-Tenn.;
Bart Stupak, D-Mich.;
Mike Doyle, D-Pa.; and
Heath Shuler, D-N.C., who just voted to restrict access to abortions in the House Health Care Bill via the Stupak Amendment.
Others include:
Senators Tom Coburn, R-Okla.; Jim DeMint, R-S.C.; and John Ensign, R-Nev. ...
Others who regularly attend C Street house gatherings or other Fellowship studies reportedly include Reps. Jerry Moran, R-Kan.; and Joe Pitts, R-Pa.; along with Sens. Sam Brownback, R-Kan.; Bill Nelson, D-Fla.; and Mark Pryor, D-Ark. They too were contacted by WORLD. Moran, Nelson, and Pryor did not return repeated phone calls; others refused to speak on the record about C Street house activities and the Fellowship.
There is no mistaking the religious fundamentalist agenda in the core beliefs of these people.
We have been told, 'If you like your insurance coverage you have now, you can keep it.'
Stripping out existing abortion coverage from insurance policies via the Stupak Amendment doesn't seem to jibe with that.
Someone please explain this dismantling of coverage in this new bill as 'keeping the coverage you have'.

.....
This is one of the bitter, deadly fruits of cowardice in the face of evil. It helps to illuminate a critical principle, ..... each retreat from battle makes the next battle that much harder. The Democrats are always talking about "saving their gunpowder" for the next fight, which will be the genuinely important one. But each act of cowardice of this kind -- and it is cowardice, we should call such acts by their rightful name -- weakens them, rather than making them stronger. Each concession to evil makes evil stronger, while the coward reinforces his own cowardice. Thus, evil consolidates and expands its reach -- and those who would fight against evil are pushed farther offstage.

This health care bill monstrosity is a PAC
(intended) of fat, stinking lies.
