My report on yesterday's march and pictures
I am so tired but energized from the absolutely wonderful weekend. I am sure I will be asleep soon but wanted to share a few thoughts while they were still fresh.

First of all, the meetup on Friday was wonderful. I feel like I have friends from all over. EarlG was there and he is absolutely charming. I can't thank him and Skinner and Elad enough for this awesome website and the impact it has had on my life.

I am also a Camp Casey alum and stayed in the same hotel with many of my CC friends. They asked me to march with them and I said "I am marching with Democratic Underground. If it wasn't for DU, I would never have gone to CC. It was a DU friend who talked me into going to Crawford in August of 2005. I first learned about Cindy Sheehan on DU. And I owe DU so much for the education and friendships I have gained there." So I was proud to march with DUers under that DU banner yesterday.

Here are some CC folks gathered in the hotel lobby for a Texas picture before the march.

They also decorated the windows of our hotel

And oh what a grand time we had at the march. We met on the mall and waited a couple hours to start the march while we listened to the speakers. So many DUers came by to see us. Some stayed and marched with us and others came over to say hello. Unhappy Camper came by and passed out bush flags to put in dog shit. He had made up little baggies with flags and instructions. What a cool idea!!

Here is The Witch with the DU sign. It has become a tradition to bring a poster or a t-shirt to these marches with messages from DUers who are with us in spirit as we march.

Jeanette in FL waiting to hit the streets!

WolverineDG had the best wish!

Some of my favorite signs

And the DU banner

My friend David got a lot of attention while we waited.

The sign at the top says "what's good for the goose"

As for the question of the weekend regarding the size of the crowd, no I didn't get a picture of that
since I didn't get up into a helicopter. But The Mall was packed from the capitol as far back as I could see. One of my CC friends was working security at the stage and she said some of the organizers were estimating 1.2 million. Then we heard at least 700,000. SharonRB said that she had been to plenty of football games with 100,000 fans and this crowd was a whole lot larger than that. I know we spent a lot of time just standing waiting to move. When the beginning of the march came to the end of the route, marchers were still feeding in to begin marching. It was just an absolutely immense crowd. I can tell you for sure it was more than the thousands reported on CNN and more than the 20,000 a caller on CSPAN reported this morning. There were also plenty of helicopters flying overhead so I feel pretty certain that someone knows how many people were there. Anyone know how to contact Agent Mike to see if he could post his pictures?

3. The Harrington
I think it was a lot more than 200,000. It sure seemed like more than NY in April and that was at least 350,000.

11. These are excellent pics, proud2Blib
You take great pics. Now to ask a favor and permission to use some in my comic blog. I did one yesterday from pics I downloaded from Yahoo, but have been asking fellow DUers who were there if I could use some of the pics.
Everybody has been wonderful and giving their blessings. So, I now have 3 more pages up for today and will continue to add more.

I watched on C-SPAN and recorded the event. Like always the rally was goose pimple good.
However, I just wished C-SPAN would cover the march like they did for the RNC 04 New York Protest. I have a good 4 hours of that on tape and I get chills every time I watch it or sometimes just thinking about it.

Thanks for sharing, it means a lot to those of us who couldn't be there.:hi:

19. It was an honor to meet all of you
Great pictures. I had such a blast with all of you guys. The energy from the group will last me a long time to continue this fight. I wish I would have had more time to spend in DC. It is so cool to be able to spend time with like minded people. You don't find that much in this life, especially when you live in a very "red" little town like I do.

Also, the picture of the DU'er with the sign "Nobody likes you" is Catnapper, I am pretty sure. She was a very cool lady too.

Can't wait for the March 17th march on the Pentagon.

It was so nice to meet you all.

And remember what went on in DC, stays in DC.

Huh? Did I meet you in DC? :)

I vaguely remember someone waking me up late Sat night and then there were 2 guys on the floor of my hotel room.

I think I was hyptonized so I couldn't remember anything. :hi:

I am so glad I got to meet you. Sorry we didn't march with the group. We wormed our way up to the front of the stage to hear the speakers, and got lost in the crowd afterward. The march was awesome, and IMO as big if not bigger than the 2005 march.
