For those who are surprised that the violence at Fort Hood could happen at home.
People it is time to wake up! What can you expect? We have waged illegal wars, bombed, killed, raped and tortured! What can you possibly expect? What do we deserve? I am dumb founded by people that don't think twice about eight years in Afghanistan, not one thought about the children that have been maimed and killed. How dare you be taken aback when the violence reaches our military base. This is war folks. WAR!!! And if you don't like it in your back yard you better stand up and stop the wars that YOU are waging in other people's back yards. It is time that Americans take account of our actions and make the necessary changes. What are you waiting for?

For the record I do not condone the violence at Fort Hood and stand opposed to any killing at home or abroad.

1. who's surprised? I haven't seen that sentiment here at all.
And this has more to do with one mentally ill man than anything else. Oh, and take your crap about how "deserving" of this we are and shove it. Hard. along with your little add on about how you don't condone the violence. Saying it's deserved kind of negates your lame little denial, honey.

4. Cali two things......
I never said the attack was deserved. I am sorry that you can not understand my point. We reap what we sow and it is coming home to us. I have read many of the accounts from people at Fort Hood that stated how surprising it is that this violence could happen at home. I will post a link for you when I see it again. My final comment was to avoid just the confusion that you are eager to propagate.

2. Amazing, isn't it, how few notice how much damage war/violence does
when the powers that be prevent the latest wars from being broadcast nightly and throughly into homes across America.

No news is good news from the class that profits from war and public indifference.

7. It is hidden away.
Even the parents of soldiers that I know, are surprised that their children are going to war. How can that be?

13. Local parent STUNNED at emails/letters from offspring recently sent to Iraq
They were all for offspring's enlistment, even coming after the damn wars were started. Offspring was in safe, comfy, even enviable place for a few years. Gee, the military is THE way to go. Now, letters from Iraq and reality is hitting home. Reality is brutal and they didn't have a clue.

Offspring is female. She is fighting the invaded people AND some comrades in arms and employees of private contractors making obscene wages while pretty much immune from punishment for raping. Yeah, they never saw it coming.

When we tried to warn about the horrors of war, we got labeled as terrorist supporters. Now, well, I feel for them, but am very angry at the time they spent in denial.

16. We hold a peace vigil twice a week at the center of our village.
Some people with little kids drive by every Tuesday and roll their windows down so that the little ones can give us the peace sign. Other cars go by shaking their heads. One woman with the license PRASE GOD always says something hateful like 'You're helping the enemy!' One young man stuck his head out of the back window and yelled ( referring to our support the troops/ troops home now signs) ' I'm an American soldier and that hurts my *ucking feelings'. We hear and see so much. I just wish that the honkers would join in, call DC and get these wars stopped!

I hear what you are saying about not getting through to people. I will think good thoughts for the young woman. May she be safe and return home able to cope with the strain of war.

6. Continual war is a fact of life for our soldiers.
The resulting stress created or added to this atrocity at Fort Hood. You can see the violence of war in the homes and streets when our soldiers struggle to come home. I would be fooling myself to believe that war only happens in another country. That is the problem! War bleeds into the fabric of all of our lives. Our soldiers pay the price.

11. I didn't do it as a thread to thread thing.
My apologies if you saw it that way. Just a coincidence, I assure you.

Furthermore, we are in compete agreement with your "Bring them all home" statement.

to years and years of violence, death and public hatred.

17. Just what does a negative recommend on a post like this mean?
I think it is time for many of us around here to seriously wake up! When I posted this I really was referring to the outside world being surprised that wars spring violence at home but it may be that we here at DU are not so willing to take responsibility for the wars that we are going to pay for some day! The un recommend is such an odd tool. At least one UR had the decency to say it was coming.
