The Truly Courageous Democrats Are the Ones Who Voted FOR HR 3962
It was Pelosi leading the courageous, digging deep for the courage of the party to vote for the first time in History of America for Universal Healthcare. Many Democrats who voted in this come from red districts where they will take heat from their constituents for supporting it. Many Democrats come from extremely progressive districts who are taking heat because it's not Single Payer. And further courage was needed by the female members of the House to vote for this bill when it had one of the most egregious poison pills attached to it. But the courage was there to show that no matter what Republicans try to do to stop healthcare reform, the Democrats have the will and power to do what is so badly needed for the millions of Americans who have no health care. Some say it was courageous for the Dems who voted against this on principle. No, it was easy for them. They will be supported by their ultra-left purists or conservative leaning constituency. These people are playing it safe. These people don't want reform. These people supported the status quo. The truly brave members of Congress voted to take America one step forward into the future, where we belong, in a country that provides healthcare regardless of income or pre-existing condition.

2. Big Fat Rec!
I find it interesting that to a degree, it was Cao's vote that allowed Kucinich to make his statement.

Thank you, Republican representative Cao!

He, too, showed courage in putting his constituents above party politics.

:applause:

8. Seriously. An egregious omission.

:grr:

Voting for crap that is structured so that it will be incredibly difficult to improve in the future, with poison pills in it so that it harms most of your constituents, this is courage?

Courage would have been fighting for one of the better options they willingly sacrificed earlier on the altar of lobbyists. We had options that would have been much more helpful to many more people, but these "courageous" dems killed those options at the command of the insurance industry.

:grr:

Where the fuck is the courage if they can't stand up to corporate lobbyists, but they can stick it to millions of poor women?

10. Don't give me that crap.
You're the one supporting moving in the direction lieberman likes. Not me. I'm obviously far more progressive than you.

I am sick of compromise-addicts who stand up for nothing at all, and celebrate over ashes daring to tar progressives and populists as republicans and neocons. It just shows that you not only lack principles and courage, you also lack any sense or perception.

22. By your logic,
You don't support real healthcare, so you are just like Glenn Beck. Got it.

So why don't you go post at your home site instead of here. By your logic, clearly this isn't the right site for you, because you obviously don't support real health care. You support constant compromise with the right.

:eyes:

You are being childish and petty. Grow up.

23. You are the one that is standing up for "nothing at all." Between the only bill being considered
and "nothing at all," you would support "nothing at all."

29. I support better than this bills,
The ones that were being considered, and the ones that could be considered.

Saying that this one is the only choice, and was the only choice, and that we could not have had better or don't deserve better is absurd.

Just because you will cheer for whatever scraps are left after corporations gut legislation doesn't mean that everyone else should. Some of us have the courage to stand up against corporate corruption in our government, and demand that our government represent people instead of corporate interests.

This bill represents corporations, and sacrifices people to profit. The amount of help offered to people is a small fraction of what it could and should have been.

The fact that I wanted more benefits for more people isn't the same as wanting less in any sane mind. :eyes:

I make it a policy to never debate with a binary thinker. It limits the debate.

26. Oh, bullshit.
That is the most irrational criticism of of DK I have ever read.

He has fought hard starting with public ownership of utilities and moving on to host of other issues because they benefit citizens, not because he benefits.

The compromising dems who do it for campaign cash from lobbyists are the self-aggrandizing ones.

filibuster. Glad you are honest at least, even though you are supporting the continued deaths of tens of thousands of Americans.

16. No way am I kicking this.
If HR3962 isn't all things for all people, then it sucks and can only be defeated by a principled Ohio Congressman. Did I mention that he's principled? He's principled, you know!

And that Joe Lieberman fellow isn't principled. Even though his NO vote will be identical to that principled guy's NO vote.

18. Who voted for universial healthcare???
A lot of Democrats voted for a bill that promotes the growth and expansion of the insurance industry by forcing everyone to buy into it. I haven't heard about any universal healthcare in that bill. The only thing remotely close is a public option for those whose companies don't offer it to their workers, which is not an option.

The Freepers must be enjoying all this  and stuff over here.
Yes, those brave Brave Democrats stepped out of their comfort zone to STAND for this Bill.

Is it perfect? ~ maybe not but it is a mighty big step.

And I must give Nancy P. a gold star, she really stood up tall on this one, that is a really great step. You could tell from the applause by her fellow Democrats that they appreciated her work.
