1. Call it a pre-emptive strike against real health care reform
Bush couldn't let UN weapons inspectors discover the truth about Iraq. He pulled them out of Iraq and said Iraq kicked them out. If people actually knew what wasn't to be found in there...no war for oil.

Likewise HR 676 couldn't come to the floor in Congress, or get CBO scoring, not even to be voted down. If people knew what WAS in there... no insurance company bailout bonanza.

had to "pass something" in the hopes we'd shut up and go away. Even if we don't, they'll point at this POS and claim they've already done something.

I think the 2013 start up date was dreamed up, not only to give the insurance companies more time to jack their rates up, but to delay the moment when most of America figures out how badly they screwed us over on this deal.

Today's Star Tribune quoted John Dingell as saying "The nation will thank us for this." Guess again, Congressman.
