Will the Wall Street bailouts come back to haunt Obama and the Democrats?
Or will we find ourselves defending the bailouts and the lack of regulation and the huge profits and bonuses, even as unemployment continued upward?

Would this defense of Wall Street not be a more suitable role for the Republican Party? Are we making a generational shift in political ideologies, as we have done in the past? Woud you be comfortable with this "new" Party?

Or do you think it is really nothing to be concerned about?

1. bailouts were evil, but I could believe they were needed IF serious regulatory measures were passed
along with the bailouts to break up the firms deemed "Too BIG to Fail" and to reinstall GlassSteagal, etc....

Since none of the re-regulation took place then - yes - I think the bailouts will come back to haunt us.

4. AGREE!!! Very True!!! People will have long memories about the bailouts, the

bonuses paid, the salaries, the parties, Too Big to Fail, that these are the only ones that can do the job... the whole thing will come back to haunt us if it does not get drastically changed.

At present, it appears the dems just propped up the same mess. I know independents that refuse to vote for the dems again just because of the way it was all handled so far. I fear 2010 is going to be a real wakeup call. They were started under Bush and continued under Obama.

Wall Street and Banking regulation reform ASAP is mandatory! It is drastically required. Otherwise, we will eventually end up in this damn mess again. I don't want to see any of this hung on the dems.

2. A year from now, the Obama will be saying he signed regulations of Wall St.

To me, the regulations will be inadequate, and part of a bill which gives the Treasury Secretary even more bailout power.

But Obama won't be "defending...lack of regulation," he'll say he got new regualations passed.

3. Uh, the bank bailouts happened under Bush
They will hurt Obama if the general public is as stupid as a significant minority of DUers who are "calendar challenged" and can't understand those things called "dates" and "time."

Uh oh. I guess we're doomed.

5. I think Wall Street and Banking regulation reform will start moving through Congress
in about February to insure every last Republican gets on the record as supporting Wall Street and the bankers before the 2010 election.

Sort of like how Bush made sure Democrats went on the record on the Iraq War in the fall of 2002.
