2008 Democratic National Platform - Choice
Just a reminder to anyone getting a teensy-weensy bit miffed at those of us who are angry over the Stupak ignorance.

29 Reproductive Health Care
30 We oppose the current Administration’s consistent attempts to undermine a woman’s
31 ability to make her own life choices and obtain reproductive health care, including birth
32 control. We will end health insurance discrimination against contraception and provide
33 compassionate care to rape victims. We will never put ideology above women’s health.

18 Choice
19 The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman's
20 right to choose a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay, and we oppose any
21 and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right.
22
23 The Democratic Party also strongly supports access to affordable family planning
24 services and comprehensive age-appropriate sex education which empowers people to
25 make informed choices and live healthy lives. We also recognize that such health care
26 and education help reduce the number of unintended pregnancies and thereby also reduce
27 the need for abortions.
28
29 The Democratic Party also strongly supports a woman's decision to have a child by
30 ensuring access to and availability of programs for pre- and post-natal healthcare,
31 parenting skills, income support, and caring adoption programs.

10. Choice?? Really? When have people REALLY been pro-choice?
It seems like they are ONLY when it comes to abortion.

And I am pro-choice in that regards, but other ones as well.

What part of 'your body, your choice' do people on the left and right do not get?

It is an IMPORTANT value that often gets ignored in areas other than abortion, but that is the only we seem to care about.

11. Plenty of people around here don't give a fuck about abortion rights.
Maybe you need to update your shtick.

12. Maybe you need to read a little deeper
Abortion is about 'Her body, her choice' which I stand behind.

I also stand behind, for the same reason, 'Your body, your choice' on a great many OTHER issues.

The CORE issue, the value judgment found within that mantra, is often discarded on the left - and the right as well.

Why do either of the sides wish to control choices people make and attempt to enforce their personal moral beliefs on others?

And why do we stand for it here?

13. Let's just say I'm not really in the mood for your cute routine today.
I'll leave it at that. I'm in a stabby fucking mood.

14. Choice is a routine? Really?
Either you oppose choice or you don't. And some do, it does not matter the venue - well to me it doesn't anyway.

Maybe to you some personal choice is ok and other is not. Which is similar to the folks on the right we bitch about all the time who want to limit some choices based on their personal/moral beliefs but don't want to other times.

I might be 'cute' in all of it, but at least I am consistent in what I believe in.

18. Women's rights are worth more as bargaining chips than a silly piece of paper.
Keeping a straight face while presenting the platform at the next Democratic Convention is going to be a challenge.
