La. Gov. Declares State Of Emergency Ahead Of Ida
Ida Could Reach Northern Gulf Coast Tuesday
BECKY BOHRER, Associated Press Writer

POSTED: 7:23 am EST November 8, 2009
UPDATED: 4:07 pm EST November 8, 2009

NEW ORLEANS -- Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal declared a state of emergency Sunday as the Gulf Coast braced for the arrival of Hurricane Ida, which was making its way across the Gulf of Mexico as a Category 2 storm.

A hurricane watch was in effect from southeastern Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle, meaning hurricane conditions were possible in the next day and a half. New Orleans was not included in the watch area.

The emergency declaration is a precaution that frees up state resources for any emergency situations. The National Guard and state agencies have been put on high alert so personnel and vehicles are available if needed.

9. Nothing has been mandatory, but a few places are evacuating.
The low-lying parishes are really preparing, but it does look as if we will be to the west of the storm, which is a really good thing. The only bad thing is for people like my partner who works in a low-lying parish and hasn't had worked canceled. The roadways will be a fucking mess tomorrow.
