In July, Kucinich said the House bill held insurance companies accountable

Kucinich Strengthens Health Care Bill

Secures Four Amendments in Health Care Reform Bill

Washington, Jul 17 -

In addition to securing a historic victory for states’ single-payer health care, Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) today won adoption of four other amendments in HR 3200, America’s Affordable Health Choices Act. The Kucinich amendments:

• drive down the cost and increase the access of prescription drugs by ending the pharmaceutical industry’s practice of manipulating physician prescribing habits to pharmaceutical representatives;
• ending the insurance industry practice of raising costs or decreasing coverage for Americans during the time Americans are not allowed to switch plans;
• require the disclosure of insurance company costs like advertising and marketing costs, as well as executive compensation, that use consumer’s money to increase profits instead of covering care;
• improve access to integrative medicine by requiring its consideration for standard coverage and by requiring the identification of integrative medicine providers .

“With the addition of this language, this is a stronger bill that will protect Americans and hold health insurance companies accountable to their customers,” said Kucinich.

(emphasis added)

Does the bill no longer do these things?

18. The bill did change, for the worse
Edited on Sun Nov-08-09 05:00 PM by rollingrock
when Pelosi stripped out the state single-payer amendment, which was the only thing in the bill that COULD have held the insurance companies accountable. that was a huge blow to the bill, and probably the biggest reason why kucinich turned against it.

30. It was in July of 2009
Oh July when people were still talking about a robust public option to November of 2009 where people are happy with anything that remotely looks like one.

What this bill looked like in development in July of 2009 is a lot different than what it looks like in November...of course you know that.

29. Nope. What was voted on and passed was HR 3962.
What Kucinich was touting in the link was amendments added to HR 3200. Only a side by side comparison would reveal what was stripped out of the final bill but one thing we know for sure is the single most important Kucinich amendment that Pelosi stripped out was the ability for states to create their own single-payer system.

With Kucinich's ERISA amendment stripped, states will NOT be allowed to set up their single-payers systems.

I made three OPs on this debate and you want me drawed and quartered... she's free to do it...but it is called spamming for a reason.

Well, I have to agree they don't do much for me either (bet you didn't expect that when you clicked on my response :rofl: )

I do think what is going on here is an appropriate tit-for-tat. In fact, if you hadn't added insult to debbie's horrible timing of a thread, this may not have blown out of proportion like it has. That's why I made the genie comment - I think you might wish you hadn't help to catapult this into the destructive shitfest that it's become. JMHO, but I'm rarely wrong about these things.

However this is just as much spam...seriously quotes from July 2009 before the bill was out of any committee? It is intellectually dishonest and Pro knows that.

How the hell did I turn this into a shit fest...I posted an opinion, honestly when I posted that I expected to get 180 unrecs and for it to sink like a rock.

How about President Obama's statement that mandating people to buy insurance is like mandating the poor to buy a house from March of 2008...is that relevant today?

it says so right there at the beginning of your post,

when Pelosi took that critical amendment out of the bill, Kucinich had every reason to turn against it.

31. Does the phrase 'in addition to' mean anything to you?
DK lists all the reasons why he supports the bill, INCLUDING the states single payer amendment. if you take out the biggest reason for his support of the bill at the last minute, as Nancy Pelosi has done at the request of the WH, then naturally he is going to have a very different opinion of it. how hard is that to understand?

"In addition to securing a historic victory for states’ single-payer health care..."

The Dems stripped it out of the bill, presumably at the request of the administration.
