Poll question: Where do you stand on abortion?
Since there seem to be so many accusations about an influx of anti-choicers here on DU I thought a poll might help put things in perspective.

1. You won't get honest answers.
Because some like to THINK they are pro-choice... but are perfectly ok with restricting access and think that they are still 100% "pro-choice".

14. I have not seen anyone who supports him or advocates that...
Are you saying that because some here on DU don't view it as the end of woman's rights as we know it? Maybe some of us see this as something that is nowhere near being law and a lot can happen between now and 2013 when this bill kicks in IF it makes it to Obama's desk.

I really wish more people had gotten their underwear bunched up in all the times that states like Oklahoma continually works to restrict access on a regular basis. I actually only saw a couple of threads on that. It's being fought right now because they are working so hard to keep women from having abortions.

There are a ton of threads on this, but hardly nothing on what's happening in other states across the country.

I find that interesting.

18. The choice forum does discuss those topics regularly.
Sadly, they tend to sink in the "general" forums. I agree, I wish we could get more interest in the topic outside of HCR because there are regular attempts to restrict access.

There are plenty who have said "I don't want taxpayer money paying for abortions" in regard to this HCR and have said it's perfectly acceptable that Stupak was included. In fact, on DU, abortion has been called "eugenics" (thankfully that poster was banned), "baby-killing" (poster not banned), "murder" (also not banned), etc. I could go on.

I know that this bill has a long way to go and that we can hope that it be stripped. I am just pissed that the DFLA threatened to kill HCR if further restricting access wasn't added.

Send $ to Planned Parenthood, and if their clinics in your area draw a lot of protesters who harangue, yell at, or photograph people who go their for medical care, call and ask what you can do as a volunteer. Then DO it. It gives one a whole lot better perspective on why choice is essential and just how fucking awful the forced birthers are.

17. I support an abortion rider
and if a woman is too "ashamed" to check that box, then she really isn't pro-choice. Further, if a man is too cheap to check that box, then he's not taking responsibility for fatherhood and is also not pro-choice or pro-woman.

And you didn't make a pro-abortion choice because I am pro-abortion. They're cells people.

Why not have ryders for all medical procedures some deem unnecessary then? Why should a women's medical procedure be treated differently than anyone elses?

31. I am totally pro-choice, but it does bother me when in some cases,
it is used for birth control. And I'm talking when it is used as the only method of birth control. I'm not talking about the case where they made a mistake. I read on a women's health message board one time a post about a woman who had just had an abortion. That was fine with me. But it was a month later and she thought she was pregnant again. It was a message board, and maybe she was just trying to create a stir, but that bothered me. And she admitted that she hadn't used birth control. I think that kind of instance is rare, and I'm not even sure it is true, but that kind of thing is the one time it bothers me.

42. That stops when someone posts their private business for all to see...
That woman gave the public the right to comment on her decisions by making her actions common knowledge.

Besides, everyone comments about things people do all the time. If someone disagrees with what another person does they have just as much right to make a comment about it as anyone else does.

What they don't have the right to do is attempt to stop that person from making a legal choice and that's not happening here.

Like most things it is not one.

I support legalized access to safe abortions pre-viability. I also support post-viability abortions if the life or health of the mother is threatened. I suspect that most people here do.

I also support reducing the number of abortions through birth control and stronger adoption programs.....

I personally don't believe it should be used as a form of birth control. But I'm not the one making that choice.

who get abortions for reasons they don't 'approve' of.

My mom always said 'It takes two to tango.' So what, no judgement for the men responsible? It's not like all of them are scrupulous about birth control either. I've known quite a few who disliked condoms and were more than happy to leave birth control and it's attendant responsibility to women. But then again, men don't have the opportunity to publically display a physical process as a result of sex.

I'm just happy I have a tubal and never have to personally worry again. Maybe that will lower my 'insurance' rates in 2010. :sarcasm:
