"I'm praying that he is some other Asian."
http://www.alternet.org/story/50698/

"Before the news identified the killer as Cho Seung-hui, a 23-year-old English major from South Korea, all ethnic backgrounds were up for grabs. A friend from a small college town on the East Coast, who is Chinese, called to say: "Please, please let it be some other Asian. We'll be in deep if it's Chinese."

In a popular Vietnamese chatroom, Vietnamese college students were writing to each other to speculate. One said, "I have a bad feeling. It might be Mi't (Vietnamese slang for Vietnamese)." Others wrote in advising each other on what to do."

The entire world is scared of us. Sigh.

1. Maybe I'm just not connected, but Idon't see any retribution against
the Chinese , or the Vietnamese if this shooter had been of that asian decent.

It's sad to say, but I think the only major backlash that would have happened would have been if the shooter were muslim. Wrong as it may be, that's the group who are taking all the hits now.

5. The wingnuts keep trying to make him one.
:eyes:

Seriously, they at first said he was Arabic, then when that was wrong, they said he belonged to a Muslim terrorist group and then, when that was wrong, they then started talking about the Ishmal Ax written on his arm.

They really, really, really wanted him to be Arabic and/or Muslim.

7. You do know, don't you, that somewhere, sometime,
they are going to blame it on the liberals, because we hate America, which naturally means we support Muslims, which, in turn, means we support the terrorists!

I saw someone connecting Ishmal Ax to the Koran, which naturally made him a terrorist.

8. Absolutely! Right or wrong, he would have been an al qaida terrorist!
It seems that so many people aren't willing to admit that there are terrorists and crazies domestically too!

Unfortunately, many of them belongto the very group that do the most fear mongering.

2. Sad. They know what's up with Americans.
They know ethnicity plays a big role in the blame game.

6. I don't blame them a
a damn bit. Paranoia runs deep in the heartland..The world is whacked and there are those who need just a tiny little excuse.

9. All Asians are still on the hook.
I'll say it - - Most of the people who would do retaliatory hate crimes can't tell the difference between a Korean and any other Asian. They don't see Asians as people - - and have never bothered to LOOK to see the difference. None of them are safe.

Give me Friday Night, after 1130 PM, for the first retaliatory hate crime to take place. Let some weekend drinking take place and it will happen. Probably in VA, too, if I had to narrow my guess....

10. Hope you're wrong. Afraid you're right.
Lots of wackos in the world. Some American muslims have been beaten up in the last few years just for being muslim.

Evil runs deep.

11. Exactly - remember that poor Sikh that got murdered right after 9/11?
There were several retaliatory hate crimes against dark-skinned people of multiple ethnic backgrounds in the weeks to follow...
