Wow! What an amazing discovery! I just pushed a thread from page 7 on GD from last night
to thread #7 on the first page. So simply by responding to a thread it is possible to keep it near the top of its forum so it may be read by more people. What a concept! I guess kicking a thread is more important than obsessing about Recs since even if someone gives a thread an UnRec and responds they have kicked the thread.

You learn something new everyday. Or at least I hope I still can. :bounce:

1. Also, within the first few seconds after this thread was posted 17 people read it.
Damn, and I just kicked this one again just by responding.

11. It sure is! For example...
If you want to cook an egg in the microwave, make sure you break up the yolk first.

4. unRec
Not that I don't agree with you. But this posting is not a current event or political in nature.

5. It is "general discussion", hence it fits in GD.
Where does it say that GD must strictly be about a current event or political in nature?

12. Well, if you want to get technical about it...
But let me make this argument: since most threads which receive UnRecs are political in nature or relate to current events, then my thread does have a passing relevance with GD. Besides, all the threads which I have seen here about the Rec/UnRec situation have always been posted in GD.

So, if it's important enough to be moved, it will be moved. Until then, I just kicked it again which is exactly my point in making the thread.

16. Yes, technically you are correct.
:kick: again.

Just think, if this thread was actually about something important and somebody wanted it to be read they could keep it near the top of its forum just by responding to it and Rec or UnRec has nothing to do with it.

the hurt egos of those learning their opinions are not universally loved.

So sad!

22. I wonder why
if you don't think rec/unrec belongs in GD why you didn't object here:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=6042175&mesg_id=6042175

where you took part in an active discussion of the merits of unrec in a GD forum thread.

And thanks for another opportunity to kick this thread!

25. I guess my point is that if you want a thread to be read you do it by kicking it
and not getting all wound up about Recs or UnRecs that occur in the first minutes of a new thread. Rec/UnRec is only good for 24 hours and if the thread gets so many Recs it winds up on the front page it will only be there for a short time, but kicking it will always make it rise in the forum in which it was posted so it can be read again.

Threads that deserve Recs will ultimately get them. I can remember somebody complaining in the first few minutes about a thread about Dennis Kucinich because it received an UnRec and by that afternoon it had over 100 Recs and was on the front page. But even with that it was only on the front page for about a day and nobody could Rec or UnRec it any longer although it could always be kicked with a response.

Seems like the whole Rec thing is just a big ego trip anyways.
