Limbaugh lashes out at Media Matters

On the April 16 edition of his nationally syndicated radio show, Rush Limbaugh called Media Matters for America "Stalinist" and part of the "Clinton machine agenda." He further falsely asserted that Media Matters receives funding from philanthropist George Soros and that he is "not demeaning people on this program in any way."

Limbaugh asserted that syndicated radio host Don Imus was fired because he was "critical of Hillary ," and added, "This is an election year. Clinton Inc., you get on their case, they're going to take you out." Limbaugh continued, "hen I say the Clinton team, I include Media Matters for America, this supposed tax-exempt media watchdog group," adding, falsely, "hey are George Soros-funded. This is clearly part of the Democrat Party machine." As Media Matters noted when Internet gossip Matt Drudge described Media Matters as a "Soros operation," Media Matters has never received funding from progressive philanthropist George Soros.

Limbaugh said that the purpose of Media Matters is to "kill conservative information, which it labels 'misinformation,' " based on "the template conservatives are racist, and as such they have to be banned."

Limbaugh also asserted, "I'm not going to let the Democrat Party or the left or some lackey watchdog group or a couple of race hustlers dictate my speech," and added, "They don't get to use the power of government to silence conservatives, which is their real purpose." Limbaugh also claimed, "We don't play rap music on this show. We're not demeaning people on this program in any way. We don't air South Park, we don't air MTV or Comedy Central on this show, and the rest of talk radio doesn't either." However, Media Matters has documented numerous examples of Limbaugh demeaning people on his program.

LIMBAUGH: The ironical thing about this is, or the ironic thing is, that Imus is no conservative -- most of his guests were liberal -- but he was critical of Hillary. And so he had to go. This is an election year. Clinton Inc., you get on their case, they're going to take you out. They're going to do what they can to marginalize you or do whatever. I've seen a couple stories I was reading over the weekend, that the Clinton team saw their opportunity. And when I say the Clinton team, I include Media Matters for America, this supposed tax-exempt media watchdog group. It's just an arm of the Democrat Party. They have an agenda. They are tax-exempt, and they're doing nothing but advancing a political agenda. And they are George Soros-funded. This is clearly part of the Democrat Party machine. And I had some people say, "Rush, are you going to talk about this today, or are you going to ignore it and let it go?" I offered to go after HIM, as my site Takebackthemedia.com DID BEFORE, and it was WORKING, I ended up on the O'Reilly and Scarborough show Within DAYS over it.

But no one posted when I made the offer, so I'm not going to waste my time.

Too many people talk the talk here, but won't walk the walk. I've done my time, and YEARS of it, not to mention most of my mortgage, a LOT OF MONEY, and I'm done with it.

9. You Didn't Waste Your Time

It just wasn't the right time...this country didn't want to be bothered with the lies of a Limbaugh or bothered with the lies of the rest of the media since it didn't affect their world. Now that many have lost jobs, loved ones, savings and faith, the worm has changed.

I worked with others...setting up internet shows and stations, raising money, throwing in more of my own money than I care to say and trying to support others as well and it was like herding cats...so I fully can appreciate your frustration. Unfortunately it appeared everyone had their own ideas and coordinating was all but impossible. Lip service was great, but that's about as far as it went. That's why I am on the sidelines as well and probably will remain so.

I very much remember your boycots and helped TBTM with donations on several occasions. Thus, your work and your passion was far from wasted and very much appreciated. I see some tremendous opportunities in the future and still have faith that Progressive broadcasters and those interested in the media can find ways to learn from what's happening here, pool talents and resources and build a better and stronger Progressive broadcast network than currently exists.
