130. I bet you supported this wealth care bill
with the same amount of intellectual acumen and knowledge of how it will work for the poor, as well. You attribute nefarious principles to a woman you don't even know, I doubt have ever spoken ot.

She is attracted to a man who has principles. I think you are projecting. After all those who are willing to support the party in power, probably do it because they are powerful.

In the past year, Kucinich lost two brothers and his beautiful sister. Even in the middle of what must have been incredible grief, he continued to fight for what Democrats voted this party into power for. He fought for a universal health care system like every other civilized nation.

It is sickening to see the so-called 'left' cave to every bush-like policy simply because it is their party doing it.

K&R for a man of principle and his wife, who I assume is as lovely on the inside as she is on the outside.

Tea baggers are crying about socialized health care. Dennis voted no because this bill isn't socialized health care, its corporate profiteering mandated against the people under threat of prison.

Dennis is futher from the tea baggers than Obama.

Dennis co-crafted HR676 - the expansion of Medicare. Only a fucktard would equate that with Blue Dogs or Tea Baggers or Republicans. It's so fucking stupid you'd have to suspect some intellectual compromise to assert it.

43. Well you calculus is the same as the teabaggers

what you, and they, have not added are the 30 million who have not been able to visit a doctor because of a fear of or defined by a "preexisting condition" either real, imagined or possible.

In my case nobody in my family has been able to see a doctor in 10 years, and their are tens of millions of people who will wake up when this bill has passed and for the first time not be afraid to see a doctor.

Even though a bill without the Public Option would still have been a significant improvement for me I would have opposed it, even if it meant that somebody in my family suffered from a life endangering disease.

A Public Option means that we have our wedge and that it is now a matter of time before it is expanded, single payer becomes a state option and eventually state by state the country is transformed to single payer.

But Dennis Kucinich is much more interested in his own self promotion of purity on a bill that could never pass than getting something that brings immediate relief and opens the door for a real path to single payer.

Senator Kennedy was for this bill
Governor Dean is for this bill
Socialist Senator Bernie Sanders is for this bill

and so on . . .

But Dennis Kucinich finds himself much more sanctified than these three great men on the left.

Kucinich is the Prince of the Pyrrhic Victory.

How long would be OK for Kucinich?

How much more progressive would this legislation be when we ALREADY have a (D) in the WH and Dem majorities in both houses, and it still barely passed the House?

Tell me you could lose one of those branches to the Repubs and we'd get a more progressive bill.

How many years can Kucinich afford to wait to get this off the ground until HE'S happy with the legislation versus someone uninsured? I guess he has all the time in the world because he's as well-covered as every other pol on the Hill.

I don't like the President's stance on Afghanistan but to equate the President with the Republicans is just as silly as equating Dennis to them, because I'm assuming the President's reasoning for the troop increase is a lot different than John Boehner's reason for supporting it.

Dennis voted correctly. As a true progressive, I too would have voted against this give away to the health insurance industry. Besides that, if you think we'll be seeing the Senate give even a passing glance to the house legislation passed last evening, then you really need to get some better glasses. A mandate to purchase a pile of crap isn't exactly going to endear the public to the Democratic Party. America got a POS bill because the conservatives still rule the roost, and progressives - you know, the ones that would really like to give Americans quality health care reform - are criticized by the media and conservative folks such as yourself. When America wakes up and starts to rid themselves of conservatives, and conservatives calling themselves "centrists", and replacing them with Liberals, that is when real change for the better will happen.

is still a sell out to the private insurance industry, similar to the Medicare pharma bull (this was originally I type but it fits so I leave it) passed by the republicans. Is there a benefit in it? Some, but it's still the industry that will profit more.

If we had a whole congress of such men, all people would have healthcare, not be required to buy health insurance.

100. Everyone has to BUY health coverage.
Edited on Sun Nov-08-09 09:11 AM by hippywife
That will exponentially increase their profits. It stops some of their heinous behaviours, those that are most obvious. They have others that are not so obvious. Like I said, there is some benefit, but not nearly what there should be for those who will still find themselves in need. How does someone without a job buy health insurance?

I have health insurance, and on my lowly pay for a not-for-profit, we are over the barrel. No one else but who we have will insure us because we have a smaller group of employees, with some people who actually need to use their coverage. Out of two weeks pay, I take home only one. The other week's pay goes for health insurance for just my husband and myself.

Shit, even AARP was duped into supporting that damn pharma bill.

Dennis realizes the truth - that everyone has a right to be cared for when they need it, not just those who can afford to line the pockets of the insurance industry. It is a human right and everyone deserves the chance to be treated. It's still putting a cost on a human life.

I already answered you - the Rs votes weren't needed. That was easy to foresee b/c the Dems were determined to pass something; and if it was falling short, a few "moderate" Rs could've "changed their minds" to put it over.

And point two, the ads were a) probably already paid for before the Dem sellout; and b) the ads still provide useful cover in eliciting exactly the argument you're making = "oh, PLEASE don't fling me in the briar patch" (wink, wink)

120. ...
We knew about this bill for at least a week. The companies could have pulled their ads, but I saw the stupid C of C ad at least twice today and multiple times over the past week. Makes sense, because the bill ends rescission, it ends discrimination based on preexisting conditions, among other things. Doesn't sound like a giveaway to me.

The idea that mandates are a giveway presupposes that most of the uninsured are healthy young people (i.e. profitable) who simply choose not to buy health insurance. Most of the uninsured are people who can't afford insurance or who are uninsurable, the very people the insurance companies don't want to deal with. I oppose mandates because I think they are unnecessary--people want insurance, they just can't afford it; if they could afford it, they would get it. As long as there is a public option and subsidies to help people, I can tolerate mandates in HCR though.

In reality, the mandates and other provisions force insurance companies to cover people they don't want to cover, and that's why they oppose this bill.

I'm sorry, the idea that the Rs are opposing a corporate giveaway, that they really support, for show is just ridiculous. And I don't think the insurance companies would spends tons of cash on ads opposing something they secretly support.

in a vacuum, most likely, because it reduces the bargaining power of insurance purchasers, while allowing them to reject anyone they don't want. However, with the new restictions and the public option, its not such a sweet deal.

and I think the Rs voted against it because they are against it.

It still allows insurance companies to discriminate on the basis of AGE.

You can be sure that the premiums of every person over 50 are going to have more than their usual 10% annual increase once this bill goes into effect.

You know what decent, humane, sensible countries where the people haven't learned to expect crumbs from their government do?

They vary premiums based solely on INCOME. Or they don't vary them at all.

Dennis isn't the problem - the rest of those bozos are. This bill isn't even good enough to be called a compromise, it's a giveaway, a sellout.

And whatever good is there, will be either removed before it's enacted or loopholed-around soon enough afterwards. That is what we know from past experience, which doesn't lie. It's another big step forward for the corporatists. No good will come of that.

117. Dennis was my choice for President. I'm not a 'with the crowd'
voter. Dennis was the only candidate to support equal rights for all Americans and as an American without equal rights, he had my support, starting right here on my block, before most people even knew there was a campaign going on. I knew I'd probably not get to vote for him even in my Primary, because by then the DNC machine would have made the choices slim, as always. Which is what happened. But every shred of work I did after that, for Democrats, including Obama, I did because of Dennis. Because he got the ball rolling very early. Because for a moment, at least, I could have a candidate that spoke of me as an equal, and to me as a Democrat.

119. Thank you, Dennis. It takes courage to stand up to the crowd.
Especially when its not always politically expedient. Always liked that about this man!!

124. I find myself wondering how he would have voted
if he knew it was going to come down to 217 and him.

I agree with his vote, I think. I wish we knew more about what will come out of this. The cynic in me expects that it is more attempts to screw the people. I would like to think that Wiener and Grayson and others are better than that. But in a political town, it seems that politics wins.

133. How did he 'betray us'? It's easy to throw mud
but I have seen none of those attacking those who voted against Corporate America, explain how that vote was wrong. What, since he explained his vote, do you disagree with him on?

Eg, do you disagree with him on a strong public option?

Or do you disagree with him that giving huge handouts to the failing Insurance Industry is wrong?

Do you disagree that Americans have a right to health care? Are you with the Republicans that health care is a commodity, not a right?

I'd love to hear the reasons people have for their vitriol towards Kucinich.

You can read his reasons on the Rec list in case you haven't read them yet. I have and agree with every word he spoke, and because of that, could never have voted for anything that violated those principles.

143. It's moranic to think that Kucinich is some kind of paragon of virtue among dunces
IMHO he just likes being contrary for whatever reason. Perhaps he craves the attention.

But if you support his eternal being against most everything, then by all means post big pics of him all over your house.

Some progressive dems -- many more progressive than Kucinich -- voted for this bill. But I assume to all of the Dennis Fanboys and Girls that they're sellouts, too. Right?
