5. Nice to see you again.
I can't help thinking that Teddy would find this bill, like all legislation, flawed. He would then turn around and begin the job of making it better.

The fight goes on. The Cause endures. The Dream will never die.

Thank you Teddy!

Agree on all counts, but am lifted just the same from watching Boehner
and the other hyperCons in their desperate struggle to block this legislation.

I hope we are filming the entire process to be edited later for 2010 campaign ads!

Edited on Sat Nov-07-09 11:20 PM by Stinky The Clown
on edit ...... and what's in the Senate is far worse.

No, I don't think this is what he saw in his dreams for us.

9. He may have
He wanted us to have access to health care, not just "coverage". I doubt if Teddy's dream included making us indentured servants to the insurance companies.

12. I'm sure he would have seen it as far from perfect...
but a step in the right direction. He well understood how the political process works and that legislation most certainly can and does evolve over time, but it never has a chance if you don't at least get your foot in the door. I'm as sure as I can be that he would have voted for it.

14. Selling us out to the insurance companies is not "a foot in the door"
Edited on Sat Nov-07-09 11:33 PM by dflprincess
I doubt if Senator Kennedy would have seen it that way either. His goal was for us to have access to health care, not access to overpriced high deductible insurance that may or may not pay for care.

At his funeral, when the topic came up, the prayer was for "access to health care", not "coverage".

Obama has said he wants to be the last president to deal with this. Do you really think, if this POS is what we get stuck with that either or Obama or Congress is going to take the issue up again anytime soon? They're going to pass this scam, nearly kill themselves patting themselves on the back and expect us to be grateful that we've been sold out.

15. So you honestly think Kennedy had illusions that he would never have to compromise?
Apparently you didn't know or understand him very well.

Got it. I think I understand where you're coming from now.

22. If you're happy with the same system we have now, fine
I had hoped for something better - like Atually being able to get care, not just be forced to make payments to Congress' owners.

At least the Blue Dogs were honest about where their loyalties lie. What I really hated was the phoney rhetoric we got from Pelosi and the other ones who wanted to pretend this was reform. The least they could have done was left in the Kucinich Amendment so that states might have had the option of finding real solutions.

10. No, he didn't

Teddy dealt with a lot of flawed legislation in his time in the Senate. But the first rule is to keep moving, keep the bill alive so that you can improve it.

Get healthcare done. Then, as was done with Medicare, with S-Chip and so many other things, work the damn thing to get it better.

Always better, always in motion, always striving to make it better.

Yeah, that I think he would have done that.

11. K&R.
It might not be exactly what Ted would have wanted, but it's a start. And Ted was always willing to work to make things better. We just had to get our foot in the door, and now it looks like we have.
