4. hold on
for the good in the House bill to be used as a bargaining chip for whatever some grandstanding Senator is demanding for their vote. This disgusting process is far from some credible success.

7. Do you know how this will turn out? No, you don't.
I'm being selfish: I have a major pre-existing condition, cancer, that happened 26 years ago but is still held against me. I need insurance. I want a bill to pass where my past cannot be used against me.
Pretty simple, isn't that.

You can bemoan what's happening all you want. I want and need it, warts and all.

10. so we can't get the pre-existing condition legislation without this scam?
I doubt this will mean insurance for me or my friend who I convinced that electing this president would make that happen for him. I can't understand the folks here who are so hostile to those of us who are understandably cynical about the politics-as-usual being practiced in front of us. Incremental change may well be good for some. It can be a worthwhile enterprise. Health insurance for children was a worthwhile example of incremental change. The argument I recognize against this effort is that the insurance companies are still in control of costs which are expected to continue to rise. What happened to the proven cost-controlling pools? Why is the public option allowed to be handled like a poor step-child? This is lousy politics.(maybe all we can expect) Disgusting.

12. You have had a hard-on for this admin since before Obama was
elected, bigtree, despite your pretty posts with pics. I just see this as a continuation of your displeasure.

I'm an optimist; even when dim son was in there, I was. I find this admin vastly more intelligent and understandable. I don't demand immediate gratification either.

This is a huge bill. It will never satisfy everyone, or maybe anyone. But it's a step in the right direction for something better.

16. goddamnit
Why can't you folks accept that there are ISSUES that drive these objections to these politicians? ISSUES FIRST! Personalities when we have the leisure time.

What a cheap shot to use party politics in a primary to suggest that someone is insincere in their beliefs and advocacy here. If you had any integrity in your complaints against me at all you wouldn't point to the pictures I so generously took my time to display here with some of my posts, you'd cite the myriads of times I've pointed out where I've agreed with this president. Of course, I can't get a peep on those threads from you or any other defensive loyalists to the WH on this board. How about just sticking to debating the ISSUES, and leave the personalities out of this debata???

17. Do you know why? Because I never, since the primaries, have
seen you post anything remotely positive about this president or this administration.

Why is that? Are you THAT pissed off? I was damned happy idiot son was gone and am willing to give this man some time to work out the myriad of problems he's had to contend with. But you're not. Which is why, while I read your posts, I usually don't bother responding.

I appreciate your intellect, and pretty much agree with you about Afghanistan and our need to get the hell out of there, but try a kind word once in awhile when something good happens. It hasn't all been bad, at least not to me.

Validating Our Hopes and Dreams

THE election of Barack Obama will be a validation of hope. It will be an affirmation of the hope of millions of voters, including many who have never believed in the political system before - some old enough to remember when there were very real barriers to their participation.

The value of his election will be a suspension of apathy for many; hopefully, enough to spark the kind of attention to the workings of our political system that we will need to motivate our legislators into action and to effect the changes we're seeking.

{snip}

In Barack Obama's hands is the task of restoring, not only prosperity at home, but, peace abroad. His unswerving focus on harnessing the power of the American people by challenging us to believe in our own roles in the disposition of our government will be extremely important if he can manage to translate that hope and belief into action and initiative.

For now, though, Barack Obama has most eloquently and effectively captured our attention with his inclusive and inspiring campaign. That may well be his most enduring and constructive contribution to our democracy.

You are way out of line here babylonsister. I NEVER disrespect the president in my posts here and ALWAYS provide more than enough of an argument to support my objections (which don't always concern issues the president is actively engaged in). It's cracking me up that it's YOU who dragged the president into these series of posts. My initial comments on this post concerned what the CONGRESS is engaged in - not a (direct) criticism of the president at all. If I say it's storming outside will you accuse me of blaming the president for the clouds?

My big sister, a brilliant woman who is not prone to support "the system", nor does she let President Obama off of the hook easily either, has been looking at this bill more closely than I and just called to say, though it isn't big, it is a fundamental change in things.

I'm neither brilliant nor have I delved into the bill, but certain things make it very attractive to me. A smart layperson who likes it speaks volumes.

15. I'm wondering how it can be developed into something more. I really would like to see
Americans have more access to Preventative & Complementary Health Services. I am disappointed about this and don't see how it can be built onto what they are doing tonight.

On the other hand, there is a fundamental shift in how Long-Term Care will be paid for in this bill. Making it possible for more people to obtain LTC without spending down their assets in order to get Medicare. That is a good thing.
