4. Yep...
If this is part of a grand strategy... it truly sucks.

And if not... it's just plain asinine.

5. No... Democrats Started Collecting Poster BOYS With Anti-Abortion Credentials...
a few years back. In our wonderful effort to show how spineless we are.

It started with Bob Casey,

then Bob Casey Jr.,

and apparently continues with this idiot.

Bart Stupak

6. actually the longest serving woman in the current House is also a sponsor of the amendment
but don't let facts get in the way of your generalizations. Marcy Kaptur is who I am referring to incidently.

7. Did She Introduce The Bill ???
Is her name on it?

Because all I've heard about in the media, is the "Stupak Amendment".

Maybe... it would have been wiser to put HER name on it, and have HER introduce it.

Men, should just shut the fuck up when it comes to abortion.

:shrug:

And besides...

I like my generalizations.

:evilgrin:

11. Nope... It's Actually Called The Stupak-Pitts Amendment... Pitts Being Another Man, AND A Republican
Finally... some bipartisanship!

Weeee....

<snip>

House Democratic leaders will allow an up-or-down vote on the Stupak-Pitts amendment, which seeks to block even private insurance plans from funding abortion care.

In other words, this amendment, if passed and included in a final health reform bill, would block you from getting insurance to cover legal procedures in the United States of America, with premiums paid with your personal funds. Planned Parenthood, NARAL Pro-Choice America, the National Women's Law Center and other groups are calling for immediate action against the amendment, and you can click here to find your representative and tell them to vote no on Stupak.

The amendment, named for Representatives Bart Stupak, D-Mich, and Joe Pitts, R-Penn. Stupak is a so-called "Democrat for Life;" Pitts has been a dogged supporter of failed abstinence-only policies, domestically and internationally, and was among those who succeeded in adding language forbidding the provision of contraceptive supplies for HIV-positive women in US global AIDS funding.

The agreement to vote on the Stupak-Pitts amendment came after 1:00 am this morning when an effort to adopt compromise language crafted by Rep. Brad Ellsworth apparently was rejected by Stupak and his supporters. We reported on the Ellsworth Amendment here. Rejection of the Ellsworth Amendment makes clear the agenda of Stupak's amendment is to ban abortion care in private insurance plans, because Ellsworth provided numerous protections against the use of federal funds for abortions other than those for rape, incest, and danger to the life of the mother, for all of which the law now allows federal funding.

The Hill reports that:

Liberals on the committee threatened to vote against the final healthcare bill if it included Stupak's language, warning that it would be a return to the days of back-alley abortions.

they should have had her introduce it, I have no idea why she didn't. She has been pro life her entire career even as she has been a down the line liberal on everything else.

‘C Street’ Democrat: Don’t Ask Me, I Just Live There
By Matthew DeLong 7/23/09 4:07 PM

<snip>

The Michigan Messenger caught up today with Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.), who lives at the “C Street” house made famous of late by several current and former residents, including Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.), Gov. Mark Sanford (R-S.C.) and former Rep. Chip Pickering (R-Miss.) — all of whom have found themselves in the middle of adultery scandals in recent weeks. Stupak did not seem particularly thrilled to be taking questions on the shadowy religious group known as “The Family,” which owns the house.

“I don’t belong to any such group,” Stupak said. “I rent a room at a house in ‘C Street.’ I do not belong to any such group. I don’t know what you’re talking about, Family and all this other stuff.”

The Messenger also spoke with Jeff Sharlet, a contributing editor to Harper’s magazine who lived with The Family at another house and wrote a tell-all book about the group. Sharlet said he doesn’t buy Stupak’s proclaimed ignorance of the organization’s activities.

“When I lived with The Family at Ivanwald, a house for younger men being groomed for leadership, I was told that Stupak was a regular visitor to the Cedars,” Sharlet said. The Cedars is yet another compound owned by The Family, one that hosts weekly prayer events led by former Reagan-era Attorney General Ed Meese.

Sharlet said that Stupak had much greater involvement with the group than he is admitting, noting that the congressman was “a Family-assigned mentor to one of my brothers at Ivanwald.” That Ivanwald resident, Sharlet said, “regularly left for what he and others described as mentoring sessions.”

Another reason to doubt Stupak’s denials, Sharlet said, is that members of the organization and those who live at the C Street house are sworn to secrecy about what goes on there, as fellow resident Zach Wamp admitted to the Knoxville News in the wake of the recent scandals. That makes such denials less credible, Sharlet said.
