Between suicide and homicide

There's a fine line between suicide and homicide for some people. Both of this weeks shootings seems like the primary goal was suicide- i.e., death by cop.

I don't know exactly where the psychological difference lies between people who are suicidal and harm only themselves, and people who decide to also 'take others with them'. There is no future and therefore no consequences so the person isn't operating within their usual value system.

I have a friend whose ex-husband has attempted suicide 3 times. He has never harmed anyone else but she was warned by a mental health professional about the 'fine line'. Suicidal people often give signals - and its important that we all learn to read them, for everyone's sake.

despite the delusions of some. The vast majority of people who kill themselves do not take others out with them.

2. But those who do commit homicide

may have no history of violence toward others at all.
