from the American Family Association's "news" service:

ACLU accused of promoting promiscuous lifestyle
Charlie Butts - OneNewsNow - 11/7/2009 4:15:00 AM

Two girls are suing their high school in Indiana over punishment they received for posting suggestive photos of themselves on MySpace during summer vacation.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed the suit claiming the school violated the girls' free-speech rights. Mat Staver, founder of Liberty Counsel and dean of Liberty University's law school, says the ACLU has gotten it wrong. He contends that if the school sets certain standards for behavior, they can enforce them. As a result of this stance, the students might pay a price in more than one way.

"Students must understand whenever they post these things on MySpace or Facebook, they will consequences," Staver explains. "Sometimes they may not get admitted to the college of their choice because these things are following them around. In fact, some bar associations right now are reviewing Facebook postings to determine character and fitness for people to practice law once they graduate from law school."

The attorney insists the Indianapolis school just wants to do the right thing, while the ACLU is working to promote a very radical, anti-family, sexually provocative and promiscuous lifestyle.

2. Is the school going to also punish everyone who
smokes over summer vacation, or swears? I'm sure those, among other things, are also a violation of their "standards for behavior". How about teenage sex of any kind? I'm sorry I don't think the school has a right to implement it's "standards" during the summer break, unless it does so for everyone/thing!

3. The ACLU is fighting for something that many parents are already fighting for.
Many school districts nowadays seem to forget that their authority is limited to school hours, and travel to and from campus. As the parent of a teen, only I and law enforcement have a right to punish my kid for what she does on weekends and during the summer.

I actually had a run-in with one of these idiots last year. My daughters high school prohibits students from using the park alongside the school before or after school. I went to pick her up one day and found the parking areas around the school were full, so I parked on the backside of the park and walked over to let her know where I was parked. As we were walking back to my car together, some campus security goon walked up and got in her face, right in front of me, and started berating her for breaking school rules and demanding that she go back with him to be processed for suspension the next day. He didn't care that she was with a parent. Neither did the principal, and they later not only attempted to suspend her for one day, but wanted to tack on five additional days on for failing to comply with the orders of a campus security officer.

Luckily for her, I had a lawyer on retainer at the time for business purposes, and she offered to write a letter to the school when I called her up to ask about the legalities of the school punishing her for activities outside of school hours, while attended by a parent. The school backpedaled so quickly once they got that letter that it was almost comical. Almost. I can't help but wonder how many kids get bullied this way who come from families that don't have the legal resources to fight it.
