2. What's the point? These offensive fools aren't going to stop
Getting mad at them only makes them feel more self-righteous, and (as you can frequently see from discussions around here) any time Jewish people try to point out how the Holocaust was a particularly severe episode, we get accused of being self-centered and trying to "declare a monopoly on the word". It's a no-win.

23. Nothing is beyond the pale
I once saw a sign with a drawing of a Nazi officer and a woman in a NOW baseball cap equating the two because of the "abortion holocaust". Not in person, but on the internet. I think that's the last time I got offended over something like this. First I thought "well, except that the NOW lady isn't going to show up at my house with a squad of goons and drag me out into the street to be shot". Then I realized that this crowd doesn't care who they offend, so it's best just to let them wallow in their own hole.

NJDC:GOP must condemn “Tea Party” signs
By Eric Fingerhut · November 6, 2009

The National Jewish Democratic Council is calling on top Republicans to condemn the Holocaust imagery and anti-Semitism on signs seen at Thursday's "Tea Party" protest in Washington.

House Majority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio), House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and House Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence (R-Ind.) were among the GOP leaders who spoke in front of the more than 5,000 activists protesting Democratic-sponsored health-care reform legislation. The crowd, according to media reports, included attendess holding a pair of banners picturing Holocaust victims with the words "National Socialist Healthcare, Dachau, Germany, 1945" and a smaller sign stating that "Obama takes his orders from the Rothchilds."

NJDC president David Harris said the signs were "vile and disgusting" and it was "morally incumbent" for any speaker at the rally to condemn them.

Asked how a speaker at a rally could be expected to know the content of all signs in the crowd, Harris said that, according to media reports, the Dachau sign -- with its familiar image of stacked bodies -- was front and center and very visible to anyone at the podium.

"It might be uncomfortable and awkward" for a speaker to interrupt their speech to talk about signs in the crowd, but they should have done it, Harris said. "It's inconceivable that they were unaware" of the signs, he added.

A spokesman for Boehner told Politico: "Leader Boehner did not see any such sign. Obviously, it would be grossly inappropriate."

Meanwhile, Elie Wiesel has spoken out on his Twitter feed. He posted Friday afternoon: "This kind of political hatred is indecent and disgusting."

To me, your post implied TV ("i watch the media...", thus my suggestion to not limit your media to TV (as evidenced by my very first post)). Now, it could also be read as you "watch" all forms of media, but I didn't see it that way, which resulted in my remark, rightly or wrongly. To which you told me "don't assume."

Now, let's look at what started this entire thread....

i don't understand why the Jewish community isn't more than outraged?

See anything about that statement? It is an assumption! Which is why when you told me "don't assume," I answered with "Irony?" Do you understand now?

Now, your suggestion, what should we do? Riot? Do run-ons on live TV? Hold vigils? What? Just what level of outrage should we, Jews, express and how to satisfy you?

40. Not to mention comparing the dead in concentration camps to chickens at KFC.
It's pretty friggin' tired.

But, yes, this is an outrage, although anyone can see that the media is giving these nimrods way too much attention as it is.

Whereas the anti Iraq War marches, the pro-choice march in 2004 (with 1.2 million people, no less) were all virtually ignored by the media.

They desperately want to pump this narrative of a "grass roots uprising" against health care reform. :eyes:

45. That we do!
It also doesn't much matter what we do. If we voice our disgust, it isn't good enough or too much depending on who the "speaker" was. If we say nothing, we are complicit. If we challenge a democrat or liberal, we are "screeching anti-Semitism" or "playing into the Holocaust industry." If the speaker is republican or conservative, then nothing short of a riot is acceptable as condemnation. On this board, we are constantly reminded the Holocaust "doesn't belong to the Jews," but as soon as someone (read: Republican/conservative) invokes the Holocaust, we are expected to scream and yell, and pull our hair and if that isn't seen, then why aren't we (Jews) outraged enough.

Damned if we do, damned if don't...from BOTH sides of the political spectrum.

Jewish Organizations Condemn GOP For Standing By As Tea Party Protesters Waved ‘Vile’ Anti-Semitic Signs

One of the most disturbing images from yesterday’s Tea Party rally against health care reform on Capitol Hill was a protester’s gruesome sign showing a pile of dead Holocaust victims. The banner — captured by ThinkProgress here — read: “National Socialist Health Care: Dachau, Germany – 1945.” Another sign said that “Obama takes his orders from the Rothchilds ,” a reference to the famous Jewish banking family often implicated in conspiracy theories. Today, Nobel Prize winner and Holoacaust survivor Elie Wiesel strongly condemned the signs, calling them “indecent and disgusting.” From his foundation’s Twitter page:
