Message in a bottle...
I offer you the track without visual prompts to call attention to the lyrics...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KcGrrBOMBiA

Just a castaway, an island lost at sea, oh
Another lonely day, with no one here but me, oh
More loneliness, (than) any man could bear
Rescue me before I fall into despair

I'll send an S.O.S. to the world
I'll send an S.O.S. to the world
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my
Message in a bottle, yeah
Message in a bottle, yeah

A year has passed since I wrote my note
I should have known this right from the start
Only hope can keep me together
Love can mend your life but
Love can break your heart

I'll send an S.O.S. to the world
I'll send an S.O.S. to the world
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my
Message in a bottle, yeah
Message in a bottle, yeah
Oh, Message in a bottle, yeah
Message in a bottle, yeah

Walked out this morning, don't believe what I saw
Hundred billion bottles washed up on the shore
Seems I'm not alone in being alone
Hundred billion castaways, looking for a home

I'll send an S.O.S. to the world
I'll send an S.O.S. to the world
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my
Message in a bottle, yeah
Message in a bottle, yeah
Message in a bottle, oh
Message in a bottle...

Sending out at an S.O.S.
Sending out at an S.O.S.
I'm sending out at an S.O.S.
I'm sending out at an S.O.S.
Sending out at an S.O.S.
Sending out at an S.O.S...

1. Is there anyone on this board with ears to hear?
Edited on Fri Nov-06-09 05:55 PM by Karenina
There has been yet ANOTHER shooting rampage in Orlando. WHAT is the message? Is anyone listening? That LOUD sound you hear is the social fabric ripping apart. Ignore it at your own risk.

Bottle rockets that KILL.

Bottled up emotions that KILL.

Taking refuge in "the bottle," which so regularly and predictably KILLS.

7. Yeah, but the SOS's I'm hearing from these shooters is rage, not loneliness
Which is what I always got from the Police song.

8. anyone listening, heard
those cries a long time ago, they sent out more SOS messages, which the community has made a pact to ignore.

10. I suspect that the ears the words fall on will be deaf ones.
People are too busy tossing words like "dirtbag", "scumbag" and other epitaphs about to even think about the causes.

I am currently reading a book called Violence by Dr. James Gilligan. He looks at violence like a disease with an eye towards preventing more of it.

Based on what I've been reading today, and the response by many of my classmates to what's in this book there aren't too many people who will be interested in reading or considering the suggestions made in the book.

2. Perhaps there is no longer anyone left here
with whom such an examination, devoid of prejudice, resonates. Hasan, in his distorted mind, sent ALL of us an S.O.S. Have we, despite all of our technological advances, lost the ability to decode ...---... ?

How many are aware of the 5 Brits killed by a member of the Afghan police who lived in close quarters with them? The Taliban has since "claimed" him.

Must we always ignore the message in favor of attacking the messenger, however psychopathic his delivery may be? Ted and Timothy's broken clock moments have been ignored and the opportunities to reach the core of their pathologies and how they pertain to society-at-large glossed over.

When will WE ever learn?

6. One of my favorite songs IN THE WORLD
Oh my goodness I love this song!

I got to see them live last year. The way those guys sounded was simply unreal. I could not believe how absolutely, utterly FLAWLESS they were.

If there was a flaw in the whole concert it was that for some unknown and inexplicable reason Fergie was their opening act. Girl, she was TIRED with a capital T. When your background dancers get four times the applause and ovations that you do, it's time to hang it up!
