Psychiatrists and mental health
General observation: Psychiatrists are not immune to the illnesses they treat. Just look at Charles Krauthammer

1. Many become psychiatrists because they are looking for answers

4. My mom worked at a care facility in San Francisco
There were a lot of crazy staffers. The worst one was an arsonist. :o

3. In a mental hospital, how do you tell the difference between the staff and the patients?
The staff have the keys. :P

6. It's really painful work to listen to and treat peoples' problems
hour after hour. And unless the practitioner has a good self-care system in place, they can get traumatized themselves.

7. Yes.
And it sounds like this guy was rejected by many of his peers on some level. He might not have had the sympathetic and intuitive ear he needed when he had to unload.

12. we had a city councilman (for 8 yrs.) who was a shrink
and an extreme RWinger who would, for example, go to local concerts looking for people smoking pot, cruise certain neighborhoods trying to 'buy' crack, showed up at a plant trying to catch undocumented immigrants.

I can't possibly imagine what harm he could do to a patient.

(he just lost his CC seat!)
