The aliens are trying to win over humankind, and their leader (Anna) was talking to a hot-shot reporter about offering medical services to everyone on Earth. Apparently, they can heal most diseases. The reporter turns and looks at Anna and says, "Are you talking about universal healthcare ?" Anna replies yes.
I found that interesting that a dubious group would "bribe" human beings with "universal healthcare". It felt like a slam against Democrats. After all, that is a Republican talking point--that we are trying to enslave people by getting them dependent on government services.
I will say that there were many references about "going along" and how we should be wary of propaganda and also learn to recognize it.
I was totally reminded of the neocons.
Probably one of the most stunning scenes was when Anna sat down to an interview with the hot-shot reporter (Scott Wolf). It was three minutes until air time and she matter-of-factly stated that he could not ask any questions that "would put us in a negative light." The reporter stammered and said that he was a journalist, and that he couldn't do that. He went on to tell her that he "would be fair." She said that wasn't good enough and then canceled the interview two minutes to air time. He then capitulated and the interview went on--with her saying on air that she wanted to be open and honest and welcomed transparency.
I imagine there's similar arm twisting with the corporate media--that demands flattery when it helps the corporatocracy.
I'm totally hooked on this series. It's very well done and well written. Great special fx as well.
