Am I the only one mystified by the completely different stories being reported today re: Fort Hood?

A Psychiatrist shot 40+ military personnel with his private weapons?

When I left work yesterday they were reporting eyewitness accounts of multiple shootings in different areas, and one shooter dead as swat teams were in a shootout with at least one other person. When I got home from my commute it was "a lone gunman after a thorough military investigation". I hope I may be pardoned for my skepticism, here.

I hope this new narrative is correct. It is the least concerning option to me. But the abrupt shift in narrative at the behest of military spokespeople really doesn't cut it for me.

1. It is bizarre especially considering the fact there were tons of witnesses.
A few of which probably saw the entire thing unfold.

I always thought a dose of skepticism is healthy.

16. I would actually argue the opposite, for the same reason.
The more eyewitnesses, the more unreliable the story, IMO. Everyone sees something different.

2. Why are you mystified?
Hell, they reported there was a million people at the tea baggers protest. They will report any lie if it helps them sell news. It's like they are republicans or something!

4. Friendly fire?
I'm thinking that they might be covering up some incidents of friendly fire...multiple people trying to take down the perpetrator and bystanders getting caught in the middle.

8. And you have Military Police and SWAT
With access to some high power weapondry responding to reports of shooter(s) in a crowd setting. Just specualtion, but I doubt this guy was able to hit 40 seperate people before he was brought down.

29. That's where I keep getting hung up. How did this guy get off enough shots
to hit over 40 people, many with multiple gunshot wounds?

5. How can any investigation be 'thorough' at this point. Unfortunately, I fear
Edited on Fri Nov-06-09 08:21 AM by geckosfeet
that the military will provide details selectively. The 'true' story will be pieced together over a period of years, and since it will not be the 'official' story it will be forever regarded as a fringe tinfoil conspiracy theory.

6. That's why I only watch about 5 minutes of coverage during the first 24 hours.
The media has almost no facts right after incident so you end up with nothing but endless speculation. Yesterday the shooter was shot dead. This morning he's back among the living.

11. ... and neighbors say he had a Muslim 'sign' on his door ...
... and :witnesses" say he shouted "Allu Ahkbar" before he started shooting .... this is getting more and more pigeon-holey by the minute.

30. NBC showed a video tape from a convenience store showing a man
dressed in 'Muslim garb' picking up breakfast and stating it was from yesterday and identifying the man as the shooter in question.

Lester Holt made sure to emphasize how "calm" he seemed. :-(

12. Pay NO attention to official releases of information. .And note which "journalists"
only repeat these "official releases". They are usually at odds with the most recent information.

i.e. David Schuster was reporting the number of wounded at "around 30" while the Pentagon approved CNN was starting to say "the numbers of wounded is listed at around 12". . and then "we have reports that the numbers 'might' be updated soon"..

15. This whole incident is very bizzare... reminds me of Oklahoma City..
... or the Virginia Tech Massacre in 2007. It doesn't add up?

NBC news has labeled the shooter a "Traitor". I wonder how they know? Not mentally unbalanced or mentally ill or having PTSD.. NBC News automatically knows that he is a "Traitor"? (being that they are medical and legal experts)

I hear war drums beating for Iran... boom-boom-boom-boom :tinfoilhat:

it just means our news media is horrible at doing what they are supposed to be doing.

28. Just because its a simple explaination doesn't make it a false one
These people only think about ratings; if it means throwing their credibility under the bus to get those ratings they have absolutely no problems in doing so. So when they hear rumors during breaking news they run with those rumors. It happens with everything, wether it was with columbine, 9/11, or the recent shooting in the holocust museum. You don't think all those events were government conspiracies do you?

news stations means to take everything they report in the first hours of a crisis with a grain of salt.

21. i was very surprised as well...
having worked with them in the past (military PAOs at a huge AFB), they would sooner sit a week in silence before releasing inaccurate or "off-message" info -- and these were bottom-rung people I mostly dealt with, so I have NO idea why the base commander of all people would go with details only to drastically change them a few hours later...to be honest I was even shocked they released as early as they did the fact that the shooter was a soldier...

23. You're Surprised By Completely Different Stories? Why?

It would be a miracle if a single, accurate description of such an incident came out immediately. No ill intent or conspiracy involved---just a huge, violent set of circumstances unfolding over a period of time, with law enforcement and various news sources trying to keep up with it. Conflicting stories are the norm when something like this happens....

25. It doesn't add up. When the shooter was reported dead,
I think perhaps 'A Shooter' was killed, not necessarily the shooter or the lone shooter.

I could see it play out with one shooter opening fire, and an unknown number responding with fire against him. As authorities arrived, they went after whomever was shooting, not knowing who was the original gunman or someone trying to hit the gunman.

Friendly fire has already been reported. I think that may be why the story is shifty.
