Nobody seems to see the similarities of the military and the medical establishment. Why Is That?

Why is it that nobody points out the similarities between the Military and the Medical Establishment?
They both defend the United States Citizen against various invaders.
The only difference is that the military has authority to kill humans in the pursuit of it's duty and the medical establishment does not.
Either way, the undefended citizen is dead as a doornail if the attacker is successful.
Isn't it the job of the Government to protect the citizen from attack?
Why is it that some citizens have no problem with one form of socialized defense ( The Military ),
however, have a problem with another form of socialized defense ( Medical ), ?
