11. psychiatrists are amongst the professions that have a higher than average
rate of suicide. i have no idea if they are more or less likely to commit homicide, though

16. Yep- and when you think about it, hard to imagine with all they deal with in others
some of it has to stick, no matter how detached one is. Same deal with any profession like that. Cops, lawyers, social workers, etc.

i went to grad school for counseling psychology.

"physician heal thyself" came to my mind many times.

iow, more than a few future counselors were just a bit... how do i put this gently... "off"

12. Well, it's known that some people seek degrees in psychology and
psychiatry because they have mental health issues of their own. I always understood though that they needed to be under the care of a colleague for that reason.
This strikes me as something much deeper, something that made him snap and have this breakdown and it's too bad that his colleagues didn't see it coming.

20. Yep. Some of the most screwed up people I've ever known
chose careers in the mental health field.

It's like some of them are trying to resolve issues from their own pasts, or maybe even go into the mental health field so they can feel like they're "normal" and not screwed up at all.

14. Transferred from Walter Reed several months ago and promoted
to Major in May. His specialty was PTSD.

VA Tech for undergrad, Army Med School in DC.
